Negotiating with EY for M/SM Tech Consulting. I have 15 years experience, skills are in demand and my interviews went extremely well. 1. What are the salary ranges for M and SM in NYC. 2. I am told it is only going to be a M now, for my own benefit-no EY network means failure at selling. Whats the highest salary I can negotiate at M. Any other tips will be handy. I have "sold" (support on sales & new roles through relationships) plus I have solid delivery experience. I really want SM 😀😀😀 EY

Congrats! It’d be great to hear more about your experiences/focus/functions at S&, Pharma, and now in tech as well as comp breakdowns along each step.
I’m a M in life science consulting and applying to biotech exits with a long-term eye on tech, but am struggling to find the connectivity / right roles to move into tech as a lateral/promotion vs. a large step back when I look at a tech roles somewhat relevant to my experiences.
Sure go for it

I have nothing to ask you but good for you

Did you do an MBA? Do you feel like having or not having it has had a big impact on your opportunities? If yes, how so?
I do have an MBA. It’s been more of a box to check with these specific opportunities but it has helped with interviews/job listings elsewhere. If you get one, minimum is Top 20 school to auto-in for the best companies for on campus recruiting. Private equity or hedge funds is essentially HBS or Stanford GSB.

-TC at every role please
-How did you spin Pharma into growth tech?
-What level did you exit at S&
See above for TC, quick note though that I’m loving the strike price given the current state of the market. I was always more functionally attuned to growth strategy and had worked with both Pharma and tech clients. It also helped that the company was open to outside domain expertise (they are all ex-consultants). Exited as 1st year Sr Mgr
Great stuff, congrats!
My question to you is: Is it more important to get industry experience or functional (growth strategy vs ops strategy) in consulting to best position yourself in growth strategy type roles in tech companies?
First and foremost growth strategy functional experience. All industry domains work the same (eg - product fit and customer mix), industry knowledge is helpful to acclimate faster to those norms. Ops strategy is different but also helpful since you have to know whether your growth plans are nuts or in the realm of possibility.
Nice. Show me the money!!!!
See above and yes, I’m quite happy
How did you land these roles?
First exit was a firm alum referral - the role was pretty much custom tailored for me. Second exit I saw a firm alum post an interesting looking role on his LinkedIn feed, asked about it, and flew through interviews in 3 weeks. Did have his internal referral in.
They find you or you find them.
Very nice. Great combination of skills, passion and luck
