Just got a huge offer from a start up! 300k base. I heard RECESSION starts in July 2022, does it make sense to keep my 150 K job at Accenture and reject the offer? Don’t want to risk getting fired from start up. Please share some advice. I heard it on the news today, Nasdaq is at a 14 year low

Take the job, refer me, together we’ll keep the startup profitable I pinky promise

You need to take the opportunity. Any big firm would take you right back if needed. These firms preach loyalty only as a brainwashing technique - it’s doesn’t really get you much in return.

You run the same risk at accenture. Potentially even more so

OP - Perspective from an “old guy” - had a job offer in 2000 to go work for an internet startup - great $$$ and was a paper millionaire with stock, chose that over a manager job with (old) KPMG. 17 months later unemployed. Did the same again I’m 2007 with a fintech company - BOOM - on the street.

Made it to Partner but 10 years later than I should.

Some make beaucoup $$$ doing startups - most don’t. You gotta take your swing but if I could rewind to 2000 - I’d have stayed the course and be $millions wealthier

Good luck my friend

This post makes me question whether our company should really be working with Accenture

D4 keep in mind a lot of fish on fishbowl are not actually where they say they work or at the level indicated anymore

Dude...100% pay increase and you're asking us if you should take the job?

Accenture will always be there to come back lmao stop asking silly questions and take the job

We never know we’re in a recession until after we’re in it. And that’s based on lagging indicators. We don’t schedule recessions. And if we did it probably wouldn’t be in the middle of the summer.

likefunny

Literally embarrassed to be at the same company as you

I can’t believe a company offered someone 300k and this person stated “recession starts July 2022”

YOE or GTFO

Is “YOE or GTFO” a thing now?

RECESSION starts 4th of july mon- fri 8am-6pm.

Trust me you will get fired. I was offered about same base last year at start up. I didn’t take it and from what I know they fired the guy who took the job in 2 months. I am happy at MSFT and thank god I didn’t leave to go there. The grass is always greener on the other side !!

like

These are fair points. Should also consider the hell hole you may be entering. Some companies use extremely higher than normal salaries to cover up their dark side

like

Got it - bullish on July 2022!

One last question for you, OP - is the offer huge or YUUUGE?

likefunnysmart

When's the next world is ending day? Can you imagine if it's also in July? What are the chances?

Damn OP 😂, you’re lucky this is anonymous. Never seen a post go so badly. Hope the new job works out better though

Do I hear RECESSION?

This happened to a friend of mine from Deloitte. He left for a start-up for a similar base pay and 11 months later he’s trying to boomerang/get referred. He definitely regrets the jump.

150k job at Accenture, that’s awesome!
By the way is that total, with bonus?
Are you in sales or delivery. The new 300k is that ote or guaranteed?

Some people may be able to help a bit more context could help.

No problem, wish I could help more.

Dude turn off Fox News, it’s not even real news, and now you’re all terrified over easily-debunked falsehoods

like

Recession or no recession - nothing is ever guaranteed. If you like the startup's work & impact and you want to be part of that journey, I'd say go for it!! Accenture is going nowhere - just don't burn any bridges when you leave.. best of luck!

Take it up! I do not think Accenture any better than TCS/Infosys/Cognizant. Also let me know when you join; I am ok with 300K base 😁

It used to be better until about 2009 .. then they started competing for low end work and bottom eventually fell off wrt incentives promotions etc at lower levels ..
