Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Hi Folks,

I had joined KPMG(KGS) on April 2022, during the interview i have been told that i would be working on Java Backend Development as my background belongs to same technology and my interview was also happened on Java/Spring/Microservices; but they put me on Low-Code / No code Platform and its totally tool based work. I am frustrated with the current work as i didnt find anything productive to learn.Continued in com KPMG @

Take couple of days off from everything. Try to come to peace with it. Nothing was your fault. Truth Is we are mostly just a number for our companies. Update your resume, and refresh your LinkedIn and connections. You will find a great role before you know it. The very same thing happened to me few years ago (100% + utilization, great reviews,...). I know it's hard for you to see it right now, but looking back it was one the best things that has happened to my career.
Thanks Manager1
OP: I was laid off exactly the same way from Advisory in PwC in October despite good snapshots and good ratings. Was my milestone year too. First - finish all the exit formalities that include phone, laptop, badge, if you are on H1 then immigration formalities, experience letter as well as other important papers needed. Back up the contacts list if you want to keep in touch with some ‘nice’ ppl in firm. Secondly, take a break for a week or 2 and start circulating your resume in job portals, career sites, linkedin. Start applying and brush up your resume. You have PwC on resume and you will find something very soon. Good luck
Senior consultant thanks for the breakdown of actual activities
Reach out for EY referral...
Just dm him . We have options to refer your cv
What I don’t understand is - when PwC is so flexible in enabling folks switch groups, why can’t the groups doing badly move their folks to another group than laying them off?
Sorry for you, OP. Sending positive vibes your way 🌈 🎈
Because the partners don’t get along with each other.
The other thing I’ll add is - while you’re exploring your options and looking for your new role, take time to do all the things you never have time to do because you were working. Enjoy your unplanned sabbatical
Moved on! Thanks everyone. Landed a top role with 47% pay raise
Great to hear OP! I’ve been laidoff three times and everyone was a blessing in disguise. It helps you become confident in your skills and demand.
They will pay me till Feb 15 and was told it was due to business reasons. I don’t know what else that means
Could you share any details to contact you wit?
Hey, don't know what group within FS you were in but I recently left FS PwC for Deloitte (with a very large raise) and the process is seamless. If you like consulting, seemed to me like jumping Big 4 firms is very common and easy!
Sorry to hear, you sound pretty qualified though. I know ACN has a lot of roles looking for people with workday certifications so hmu if u want a referral
Exact same thing happened to me at IBM. I was crushed and angry because my performance had no bearing on the outcome. Hang in there- it gets better
OP what was the official reason provided? Also, can you ask your coach or RP to find out what really happened ?
For the OP, it means that the practice was significantly behind plan and they needed to do a balanced, structured “riff”, to allow them to move quickly.
Keep your head up, you will bounce back. If you are that good, KPMG, EY and Deloitte will look closely at your background.
RIF - reduction in force
Email your resume to me at workdayreferrals@gmail.com please. I am at Deloitte
Had a great snapshot from my 2 projects. Hadn’t gone on vacation for a day and now this?
glad to hear this. Where did u move to ?
FS, Advisory
Not to scare you OP, but FS is a tricky area currently. There are still plenty of roles though - you just need to be targeted in your search. Are you looking for consulting or advisory?
Let me know if you need an ACN referral
I am in FS Advisory with KPMG. Happy to refer. Brnrfb@gmail.com
KPMG3 sent u details in an email
In my long career of consulting I have been through 2 layoffs. Both were for business reasons like getting out of a certain line of business or economy. In both cases they led to better opportunities and it did not take me long to find new work. Update the resume, use the job sites and any contacts you have. This likely has nothing to do with your performance. Does not feel good to be let go but many times this will lead to a better opportunity. Good luck
I worked for PwC 8 years and I was laid off in October 2018, Insurance practice is full of politics, when I was in project my project directors on-boarded his own buddy who was in bench for 2 months and rolled off me from the project.Once I came to bench then I got laid off.HR people are very worst and useless to help the resources who are in bench. Now I am earning more than PwC so no need to worry if they lay off,it makes you very strong and strong further. Now IT market is doing great in the usa so you get offers very soon. If you need any help then please reach out me.I got laid off in end of October.,November and December is a bad time for IT people because market won’t do well due to thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.its different experience and it will teach you how to survive without jobs and how to get jobs in tough times. In my case none of the pwc Collegue helped me during my bad situation.all they called me to get the status from me.So no worries about job ,something is better waiting for you.
Make a plan like this
Step 1:
Prepare your resume and add all your skill sets and brush up your technical/functional skills.
Step 2:
Upload your resume in monster,Dice,Indeed.
Step 3:
You get lot of calls so morning to evening you will not get time to brush up your technical skills,so put some extra effort after 6pm and brush your skills.
Step 4:
Prepare self introduction and keep it ready so that it’s easy to tell about your career background.
Step 5:
Search for both contracting jobs and full time jobs.use every opportunity for time being after that you teach the same lessons to others like me.
Step 6:
No worries for lost the job,it’s very normal, just keep your mind focused and attack the every opportunity.
I think perhaps why some of us are confused by your position M4 is that by their very nature lay-offs are unfair to the individual - it’s a reduction in force for business reasons out of the control of the individual (in this case OP). If it was a “fair” termination, it would be for cause. Something the individual did (or did not do) that caused the employer to act.
Life’s not fair. Business is not fair. In my experience you can improve your odds of being treated fairly by treating other people that way, acting with integrity, investing in relationships and helping those around you. It’s no guarantee that an unfair event won’t unfold - but if it does, those investments often yield returns in new opportunities.
OP - getting laid off is not unlike a mourning process. You may have been in denial (“Why me? Are you sure there’s not a mistake?”). And then you’ll get angry about it at some point (“This is so unfair and I was wronged ...”). I don’t know you - but I’m sorry when this happens to anyone. I’d encourage you to get on to the accepting part and invest your energy in finding the next opportunity. Good luck.
Well spoken
Say thank you, next and move onto another firm!!!! If you go to another firm they’ll take you with arms open wide, give you a 20%-30% pay raise, and if you want to go back to PWC one day they’ll give you even more!
Thank you for what may I ask? Don’t disagree with the rest of it
What practice are you in?
