Take couple of days off from everything. Try to come to peace with it. Nothing was your fault. Truth Is we are mostly just a number for our companies. Update your resume, and refresh your LinkedIn and connections. You will find a great role before you know it. The very same thing happened to me few years ago (100% + utilization, great reviews,...). I know it's hard for you to see it right now, but looking back it was one the best things that has happened to my career.
Thanks Manager1
OP: I was laid off exactly the same way from Advisory in PwC in October despite good snapshots and good ratings. Was my milestone year too. First - finish all the exit formalities that include phone, laptop, badge, if you are on H1 then immigration formalities, experience letter as well as other important papers needed. Back up the contacts list if you want to keep in touch with some ‘nice’ ppl in firm. Secondly, take a break for a week or 2 and start circulating your resume in job portals, career sites, linkedin. Start applying and brush up your resume. You have PwC on resume and you will find something very soon. Good luck
Senior consultant thanks for the breakdown of actual activities
Loved PwC with a passion. Loved my role to a fault. Had very good snapshots with differentiators and was looking forward to a handsome payout come September....! And it all goes with a phone call? I wish PwC did better but I still love PwC and now I need to pick myself up and move on as I just realized maybe am not loved back in return the way I thought...! Maybe I over valued my commitment to the firm. “Business Reasons”.... sucks! Hurts
That rumor is true! It’s been going around for a while
5 weeks to get my first offer.. 7 weeks to get the role that I wanted.
I had a severance package and I was technically"employed" for additional two months. I didn't mention anything about the layoff.
Wow. Is that practice doing really badly or something. Always sounds strange to lay off well-performing and well-utilized consultants.
I can’t even comprehend!
OP - we meet alums all the time on our client projects. Ever ask them - including the very senior execs - whether they chose to jump or were let go? Yeah - me neither. They’ve succeeded and leveraged their career start to find great careers elsewhere and the circumstances of their departure didn’t matter much
Getting hired into this firm is hard. You had to outperform 95% of your peers to get here. Which means you have it - you have what it takes to be successful. Any number of business reasons completely out of your control could lead to this but if you performed well here you will excel anywhere you choose.
As others have suggested, take a few days to process a big change in your life, take a deep breath and then get back out to find the next opportunity - one that’s better for you. Change comes with a cost but growth and opportunity don’t come without change.
Best wishes OP - we are all rooting for your success.
Don’t read into it
Take a mental week off, then hit the job search, use your network, every time I’ve been laid off I ended up in a better position than I was before.
Sorry to hear it, it hopefully it’ll work out in the best possible way for you!
He’s 100% right! I’ve been laid off 3 times, all led to something better. Make notes on what you learned there, about yourself, the work and the company.
Then get up off the mat, reach out to your ENTIRE network and start searching. Job search can be harder than work itself, but throw yourself into it and chances are excellent you’ll end up in a better place.
Let me know if you need a D referral..
Send me your resume to my throwaway - workdayreferrals@gmail.com and we can go from there.
Also, if you are still interested in consulting, I am sure you'd find great referrals here.
Awesome responses to someone dealing with a bad situation. This is a great example of what this community can and should be
Advisory. FS
OP - that sucks. Sorry to hear. Among the top priorities on your to-do list: file for unemployment ASAP. Depending on state, it takes a few weeks to process. Also, in many states, severance does count against eligibility. In others, it may depend whether it’s paid as a lump sum or as a continuation of salary
Also--just Google it for your state and it should have the info - employers will not hold it against you if you explain the situation like you did and most will want your background and experience from consulting / big 4
I think PwC advisory practice is doing pretty terrible and believe more lay offs are to come. You just got a head start. Thank your lucky stars. GOD works in mysterious ways. Good luck
Why do you say that about Advisory as a whole?
Call your friends....vent for a few days. Them hit your hibby or the gym for a few days and in about 10 days start to look for a new job
I love how supportive all the responses are. Heartwarming.
so sorry to hear that. what group? heard few getting the same calls also
Greater trend or just PwC?
Not sure we’ve even established that “it’s PwC.” Could be “just OP."

Motivation. Sending you positive vibes OP. Don't give up and remember that nothing matters but your will to succeed.
I can’t believe they would do that over the phone and not in person. So sorry, OP. Everything will work out just fine!
