My husband is an independent CAT adjuster and appraiser. You need to get in with one of the adjusting firms like Amerijust. They’ll usually take anyone if there is a big storm and you can build your reputation and make more contacts, get on additional adjusting firms’ rosters, etc.

Pilot cat adjusters is a good one to start with they provide fairly decent training but it requires you to be independent
I’ve done it all, worked for Crawford company, small, independent, CIGNA, Hartford, Public Service Mutual and London based Sedgwick James. I was adjuster and examiner in Manhattan, claim supervisor, national claims auditor. Learn as much as you can, as fast as you can, and start your own independent insurance adjusting business. I made peanuts working for all my prior employers and quadrupled my salary after a few years of having my own boutique adjusting firm.
