“Just make a list” or “try a planner” are the default responses I get when I’m clearly overwhelmed and they always feel like a slap in the face. I do have lists. I do use apps. But the issue isn’t tools, it’s executive dysfunction: task initiation, prioritization, follow-through. I’ve built beautiful, color-coded Trello boards that I completely forgot about two days later. Why is there still so little understanding of this in the workplace? Why does support always feel like blame in disguise?

I think the hard part is, nobody can really know what works for you besides you. I have really bad ADHD and all of the suggestions in the world won't work for me. The only things that work for me or what works for me. So relying on other people is just setting you and them up for frustration. Figure out what works for you and stick to it religiously.

not a full solution to what you're talking about, but this is something that helps me:When I feel overwhelmed; I start with what's bothering me the most, and I assess that by its importance.

Sometimes the thing that is bothering me the most is a blocker but not a true priority, like I need to eat or drink or go to the bathroom and it's distracting me - But I'm fighting the distraction rather than solving the basic bodily function.

other times that thing that's bothering me is a priority that's not going well, and I just focus on who do I need to tell that this isn't going well

And then sometimes (like today )when I need to do real adult things that I don't want to, I come on the fishbowl and talk about other stuff instead🙃

helpful

"'Just make a list' or 'try a planner'" spoken like someone who has no understanding of what life with ADHD is like 😂. This is exactly why I don't talk to anyone at work about it. And very few people in my personal life too. I appreciate the spirit the advice is given in, but it. is. not. helpful.

Yes I have planners an sticky notes every where

Hey honeywellas, :D

What would be the compensation range for a Product Security Architect (HBT) at 9.7 YOE?

Hi Folks, I'm currently in search of a mentor. I'm a 28y/o MSc grad and starting a Junior Funding Consultant role (writing grant applications for startups) as I'm tired of holding out for an entry level role in ESG/Sustainability - I keep getting rejections despite completing a very wide ranging internship at a renewable energy company. Last year I received an offer at Deloitte Belgium but due to Brexit & VISA delays, we couldn't continue. Now I'm unsure of my career progression & need guidance.

Looking to change up my MO when it comes to organization. Litigator Hive Mind, how do you guys keep yourselves organized? Do you have a particular system? Looking for more tactile methods (post its, whiteboards, journals, etc.). The whole outlook calendar thing (while necessary) gets very cluttered very quickly and I don’t find it really advances the ball for me much.

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

What types of work accommodations can help people with ADHD? I am starting to believe 35+ of having not managed my ADHD has really negatively impacted me in career growth etc. I'm realizing a lot of things about myself are because of the ADHD. I want better for myself and family but 1. I don't enjoy the same things forever 2. Imposter syndrome and RSD make me believe it's acceptable to start over in new places at low salaries. 3. Typical college won't work for me. 4. I also can't relocate.

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?
