Just out of curiosity, what do you tell your 2-3 year old son/daughter that you do at work when you do technology consulting or management consulting?

Just tell the truth. Kids are smart. My 3yr old gets a lot. “How was your meeting? Did you tell everyone what to do?"

Haven’t had that conversation yet. Just that Daddy has to go to work and he has to get on an airplane. Your kid is mighty impressive to be asking that specifically slready

I tell them I help protect my clients from bad guys. That basically I’m a super hero without a comic book. Then hint that they should draw a comic book about you! 😂😂😂

I always hard time explaining my work even to a taxi driver... when I step back it’s just general management crap packaged as strategic problem solving 🙂

In seriousness I tell them I solve problems and help clients.. I toss in interesting anecdotes that are teachable moments

Mine thinks I take a taxi to work at the airport ...

I help other people solve their problems, even though they don't always listen, or even know what their problems are to begin with...

My kid just knows I'm in Chicago. That's his understanding of not being home.

My 3 year old asks, “ do you have phone call today?” I say yes. Lots!

My daughter thinks I work at the airport. She’s 3 so she’s not yet specific on what exactly I do. Maybe I’ll let her believe that and live my boyhood dream of being a pilot.

Please share your experiences from all aspects. The only thing that makes me think weird is, it’s too much space for one person ☹️

I grew up poor and was obsessed w financial security. After investing my blood, sweat and tears into my career for years, I’ve decided I don’t care about my career or earnings as long as I have enough to support my family. We are happier than ever making less and saving little. I wasn’t there when my mom was sick and died because I was working and my employer didn’t allow me to be in a mental headspace to be a good person for my family. I can never change that but I can be better going forward.

I love my SO. We’ve been together for nearly a decade and are talking marriage. I know being with him though will require living far from my family. I love my family and dread the thought of being far from them. My SO has been transparent about wanting to return to his home country. I don’t want to lose him but I also dread being far from my family. What’s the right call here? Fwiw he’s lived in my home country for about a decade now but has been able to visit his pretty easily (cont)

Has anyone dealt with coming to terms with an emotionally abusive relationship? I struggle to admit this (because more drastic examples come to mind), but my therapist mentioned that things like yelling/throwing things/blocking me from leaving the room are also abusive traits my ex demonstrated. It makes me feel alienated from myself — like “how could I have allowed myself to be treated like that?”. Also feeling ashamed to tell anyone

I set up my boss to take on a client that I planned to steal from her. She thought she was using me but I was using her. When she asked me to prepare statements of work, I drafted it with my resume in mind. When she asked me to set pricing, I priced it at my desired salary. When she pawned the work off to me, I nonchalantly took point. Then slowly and surely, I made myself indispensable to the client. I can’t wait to tell her that the foundation’s offer is priced above her salary. Checkmate.

I’ve been depressed for years now and this past week I lost a dog I’ve had for 15 years; he was one of the only bright spots in my life and I’ve just found it so hard to focus or motivate myself on anything after this. I genuinely feel like I’m at rock bottom, Idk if I’m crazy to feel that way bc of a dog but I used to be able to control this and put up a front but now my depression and anxiety are starting to leak into my work conversations completely unintentionally, I wish this would stop :(
