Just venting here but gawd! I applied for a job at a well respected law firm in my home town. Didn’t get the interview because a major partner in the firm had just died, so the firm was reevaluating its staffing needs (according to the HR email). Fine. I look up news reports about the guy who died and found out that he was this major conservative republican, federalist society, etc., etc. I would never have had a chance at that place! It’s like we've dialed back to 1992!

I was contacted my a recruiter at EY about a Staff Consultant role. They would like to have a 30min call with me. What should I expect? I want to be as prepared as possible.

After how many days of test can i expect interview call?

I have 3 years of Experience working as a fullstack developer using .NET Core, Angular, React, and Postgres.

I have also done certifications in Machine learning using Python and Tensorflow, but I am unable to land an interview with Microsoft, even if my profile matches the job description.

Any nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.

How’s the LGBTQ community in other places. I’m in Los Angeles and I find it difficult to connect.

What should I be reading or researching? First gen lawyer here, always been small firm. I’m at a 2 attorney firm now and was just approached about becoming a partner. The boss wants to clean up the books so I can review them and we can discuss. Other than professional connections, I have no idea where to turn for info/insight. I’m definitely interested, but obviously this is a big decision, so I don’t think a “partner? Sure, I’m in” is appropriate.

I have to tell my parents that I got engaged this weekend. They haven’t been taking the coming out well over the last year (i.e have isolated themselves from their community, screaming and crying when I’m on the phone with mom, dad hasn’t spoken to me since July). I’m incredibly nervous about this conversation. Going to have it in about two hours. Any words of advice?

My partner (also an attorney) is getting top surgery next month, and it will be an inpatient procedure. Any thoughts on how to explain to my firm that I will be out of touch for a day or two without getting too far into the weeds? Should I just say surgery? That seems dramatic.

What do you all do to make non-professional / personal connections? Particularly with the Coronavirus, and being in domestic relations, I wake up, go to work, work out, go home. So outside of law, my interactions with people are only at the gym given that my area is draining— particularly at the moment. Probably a good thing for now; but if we take coronavirus out of the equation, I’m interested what others in the community do to develop personal connections.

We all just grindin (work) or why so quiet?

So I just came out at my small firm in a small southern town. Historically, I haven’t discussed my personal life at work— but I had to give notice anyway. I told the partners I’m moving to be with my boyfriend. It was a surprisingly lovely conversation given that I’m at a firm of rich old men, deep in the heart of Tr*mp country.

My office knows that I recently came out of the closet to my family- which is fine, but making me feel young. Feeling the need to overcompensate as a result.
