Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

USI Insurance brokerage and consulting - thoughts? A recruiter reached out to me via linked in and I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this company. They seem to have decent reviews on Glassdoor but I was hoping to get more insight into workload and comp. Thanks in advance! USI

I saw an article in the NY Times about how AI is being used in some companies, and it's already a threat to lower level jobs. I'm not sure how much impact it will have on jobs that require human judgment. AI tools can mimic and imitate, but they don't think. However, as they do away with a lot of entry level jobs, there's going to be a problem at some point as there won't be a lot of entry level people to move up. That's going to be an interesting scenario.
It is important for employees to constantly be learning. Make yourself invaluable to your company. We have several online learning platforms that are very affordable. I use Udemy. We also have Coursera, Khan Academy (free), Linked In courses, etc. First sign in and make your profile. Then, wait a day or two and you will receive HUGE DISCOUNT PRICES, like $14.99. Pick a course that will relate to your job. When you finish the course, you get a certificate and a lifelong connection to the pro who taught it. Send a copy of the certificate to your manager. This should help you feel more secure. Look for AI related courses if you think that will help.
Honestly, I ttry not to think about it. I start spiraling and panicking if I think too hard about it. But I do worry that AI could be taking many of our jobs in the future.
I work at Aon and didn’t hear about this. What teams did it mostly impact?
