Advice needed - boyfriend has almost 3.5 years of finance experience at a bank. Interviewed for PwC valuation senior associate and now recruiter says they want to hire him at “experienced associate” because he has no valuation experience. Is this too big of a step backwards in career? Should he push back and see if it gets him anywhere? If he does accept Associate, is it reasonable to ask for written, definitive timeline (1 year?) for promo to Senior upon meeting standards? Help!

I'm a home grown director at a top 10 firm making $210k mcol. If you are two years out and no one has given you details about your partner path, you likely aren't making partner in two years. You should leave
CLA is strange because Director = Manager. There is no Senior Manager level.
Senior Associate to Manager/Director to Partner (Principal at CLA).
With that said, I would definitely leave.
What a terrible inflation of title lol. What is the point of that
I'd leave. If you're making $120k as a director, I doubt you'll see a significant bump as partner for the first few years at your current firm.
A guarantee $175k is better than the unknown.
Jesus, I make that much as a senior associate in audit.
Yep, not the best.
Director of a top ten firm and 120k salary 😳?Please tell me the firm name so I can avoid applying in the future. I make the same as a senior.
Director at BT making > 200k. Tax
I would reconsider if the demands are worth what they’re paying you.
120k for a director position is crazy
leave. i’m sure the partner pay there is atrocious also. we pay our seniors $120k
Chief
If you are at 120k and expect to make partner in a year, how much do you think partner pay will be? Lmao you’ll be lucky to see $150k in your first year as partner
I’m a tax director in a top 10 firm and my base is $205k and I feel I’m very under market at that , I guess maybe not LOL
I'm at 300k base but HCOL.
I bet it’s baker Tilly
Not BakerTilly. Director is at least 160k at BT.
If you are really a year or 2 out from partner, you should have a very good idea of what you’ll be making and your hurdles, etc. The fact they haven’t given you any details should be slightly concerning. I would definitely take the offer and enjoy your WLB. Unfortunately, I’m only aware of what big 4 partners make and not aware of what partners make in top 10 shops, but would imagine anywhere from 15-40% less.
What does the progression path look like at the other firm?
Not another firm, industry job. But they actually used to be a client of mine and they get great raises and bonuses annually.
I am in tax and can’t really say what my audit brethren command in terms of salary but $120k for a director at a Top 10 sounds egregiously low. I am a little over 2.5x that in a LCOL/MCOL and have several colleagues (Ds) who are higher than that (and several lower, as well, which leads me to believe I am somewhere within the reasonable’ish ballpark)…
Top 10 firm, audit senior manager $175k you should leave whatever firm you’re at, or renegotiate salary. $120k is unreasonable as director, even at LCOL! No wonder people are leaving public. ..
If you can make partner, go for it. You’ll make up that difference in year 2 as a partner. First year partner is about the same as your last year as director, but you put more in retirement and work through your capital account.
Holy ridiculous generalizations, Batman.
lol get real, if they actually valued you they wouldn’t be paying you 120k as a director. Take the hint, they are trying to show you the door.
A TOP TEN firm?? Top ten in your small town? Who is paying $120k for a director ??
Maybe forvis
Can you define Director at your firm? How many years experience do you have? And what is the starting salary for a partner at your firm? What’s the title at the new firm?
$120k total for a top 10 firm as a Director is really low regardless of location. I would leave (hoping it’s not RSM)to reestablish your salary and you can always come back to Public if you want.
