Looking for advice: My bf and I work at separate firms and while he left his laptop open with notification previews on when he was at the gym, I noticed one of his colleagues (female same level) was messaging him saying how nice it was to grab coffee today. I didn’t want to look at the thread but scrolled and they’ve planned go attend team dinners together and had multiple coffee dates. Do I bring it up?

My alarms are buzzing but I could be overreacting…. I don’t like it lol

I do this with a few of my male colleagues. We're all on the same team. It's fairly normal.

(I'm a technology consultant for reference)

like

This seems totally normal for teammates in consulting

I personally wouldn’t be messaging a male co worker to say it was nice having coffee with him; it would’ve been different it were a group chat and I said it to everyone.

But I might have different values cuz some coworkers call each other work wife and work husband - I wouldn’t do that. “Normal” isn’t always good/healthy. Like everyone said though just be aware of what’s going on outside what you saw on the screen and don’t be hasty in confronting him because you’d have to say you were snooping and that’s how you know.

I meet my male colleagues for coffee all the time. When I am in the office, I usually have at least 1 lunch or coffee meet with a colleague, most of whom are men. I will often chat something after like- “I enjoyed meeting up for lunch- let’s do it again next time I’m in”. It’s not weird at all. We are mostly remote/traveling so when I’m in the same place as someone I enjoy working with/have a work friendship with, I arrange breakfast/coffee/lunch/happy hour type meet ups. This sounds normal and I would consider them “dates”.

But-

I also tell my husband all about these things because i want to share my day, have nothing to hide, and I have a great time chatting with these people. “I had coffeee with so and so today and it was fun! Such a nice guy… he told me the dirt about blah blah project…” he does the same with me. I know all about his work people, the gossip and drama. He knows all about mine.

Super helpful perspective thank you!

Did the context of any of these meetings seem weird to you?

Me too,I dont see anything wrong, but you should definitely keep an eye on things

How many coffee dates? Just the two of them?

I don't like it, but I'm a jealous person. I'm not sure how a non-jealous person would view it. It just makes me uncomfortable.

Divorce is amicable and based on growing apart rather than bc of cheating or fighting or anything else..

Feeling really sad about friends I have drifted apart from despite efforts to stay in touch. My best friend from high school and I haven’t seen each other in about 4 years, I messaged her a year ago, got a nice response from her, and I tried keeping the convo going but she left me on read. Offered her and her boyfriend tickets to join me and my boyfriend at a concert in fall 2019, left us on read with no response. Her bday was last week and she left my bday wishes on read too. I’m so sad.

A few months ago, there were articles about how Juniper Park/TBWA’s hand sign saved the life of a kidnapped girl in a car. But the next day, reporters asked the guy who called the cops about it and he said he had no idea what the hand sign meant, he actually called the cops because the kidnapped girl kept mouthing “Help me.” I’ve heard of agencies exaggerating sales results or click through rates in case studies, I really hope JP/TBWA isn’t exaggerating about, literally, saving someone’s life.

Advice needed:

Strategy Analyst at a corporate -> IT DD/ODD at EYP -> Strategy Consulting at the same firm

Detour or shortcut, my goal is to be in strategy consulting. Is it better to just wait for a couple more years and then go directly into strategy consulting? Are IT DD and ODD experience viewed favourably by strategy consultants?
