Looking to pivot from being a corporate employee for 13+ years to being a contract consultant doing project management work for a friend's business for an indeterminate amount of time.

Anyone have experience going from corporate employee 9-5 to independent contractor?

Besides dealing w taxes and possibly unstable income and loss of extended benefits and corporate retirement plans, what are some other unexpected things you've had to deal with? Or any tips to deal with these differences? Tnx!!

Guys, I had very less HRA for April 2022 till August 2022. I was showing 1 lac annual rent .I joined new organisation in sept and now HRA is 43000 per month. I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?
