Looking to transition into immigration law with no immigration experience but with one year of practice as an attorney under my belt. Ideally, I’d like to move to another state to start practicing, but my licensing is currently only in AL. I wouldn’t be eligible to waive in for another 2 years. Would immigration firms still be willing to hire me even if I’m not admitted to the bar of the state where the firm is located?

You can work in immigration law with any state license, so as long as you are barred you are fine. But some firms will want you to be barred in the state if they have a need for SIJS cases, where you have to go to state court.

The administration is destroying immigration and shutting down pathways to legalization The system is broken the BIA is beholden to Trump, the immigration judges are under threat of being fired more than 100 this year alone it is a mere illusion of due process and fairness

Yeah make very sure that you want to transition into this madness! If you can you should try to do immigration and something else so that you’re not just doing immigration full time.

My partner and I are in the process of buying a PHEV that qualifies for the full non-refundable federal tax credit. We will both owe taxes in excess of the current $7,500 cap (will see if that increases with the new budget bill). If we both own the car (i.e. both names on the title), how do we manage filing for the tax credit when filing separately? Do we just pick one of us to file? Is there guidance on splitting the credit across owners? Does it matter what order our names are on the title?

Hello! Looking for some guidance. I will soon be leaving Verizon after 15 years with them (6 years HR experience, 3 years Operations, 6 years leadership). The last HR position I held will be eliminated and I was offered a severance. I am now in the market for a new place of employment I can call home. I was thinking of trying for a start up. But the likes of Google, Adobe, etc. also seem appealing. Would you recommend a start up as my next endeavor? I enjoy helping build processes and policies.

I'm a third year plaintiff's employment law attorney and I'm looking to move to defense, preferably still in employment law. I received an offer from a midsize firm that primarily focuses on PI with little-to-no employment law practice, so I'll have a bit of a learning curve. Offer is $90k, billable hours of 2100. Is this reasonable? I'm dead-set on leaving my current job, and this would be a $20k pay increase - which makes me believe I'm leaning towards taking it for those reasons only.
