We are pretty siloed. So the person trying to recruit doesn’t talk to the person setting up the interviews doesn’t talk to the partners interviewing that don’t talk to the team that decides the rank. Each step will be a re-evaluation. I sometimes see an interview pop on my calendar and a resume show up in the inbox, because the previous interviewer had an urgent client meeting and I was the only one they knew and trusted to recommend to interview. I wouldn’t have the full context going into the interview. I doubt this is much different from other big4.
Yup this happened to me this week - had two resumes sent over and interviewed.

Consulting firms love to down grade people. From their perspective it makes sense: they get a high caliber individual, who will blow the client away that won’t cost much. It’s a win for EY.
Plus there is the arrogance in consulting: ‘well you never worked at X, and what we do is really hard..’ No it isn’t. Your not asking me to build a Saturn rocket to Mars. You’re asking me to build a model or a deck and talk to the client. 🙄
