McKinsey question... Is it possible for someone to go to McK straight from undergrad and make Engagement Manager in 4 years with no grad school and skip being Associate? Asking since LinkedIn profile of McK Consultant (not implementation) who went from Senior Analyst to Engagement manager is creating buzz that McK allows skip level promotion at my undergrad and I am getting questions (involved in alum stuff) of is this for real.

Yeah you go from BA to EM if you’re the top. Others are asked to get an mba first. The rest just leave

likefunny

At least in NA no one is asked to go do an MBA in order to be promoted. And you don’t have to be top rated to go from BA to EM, can easily make it if you always get the average rating (just takes a bit longer) - plenty of people don’t want this though and leave

like

Yeah the path is designed for this, four years is pretty standard but as SM1 noted it can be as quickly as 2-2.5 years out of undergrad. There is less differentiation between the BA and associate role at McK versus other firms, so they eliminated the BA to associate step since it was kind of redundant/arbitrary

like

BAs don’t become ASCs anymore. They either go straight to EM (avg 3 years) or leave for B-school/quit. It’s becoming more common that BAs go direct to EMs instead of just the top 10%. However a lot self select out of this path.

like

You can do 2.5 years

like

You can make Associate Partner 5 years out of undergrad. Just saw a post about it on LinkedIn.

I don’t know how rare or exceptional this is, just that it’s possible based on this profile.

Yes this is a very possible trajectory. Most of the reason why it is uncommon is because high performing BAs often leave so they self select out. 3+2.5 to AP is solid for those starting out of undergrad.

So is it then the case that many 31/32 year old post-MBA associates end up reporting to 25/26 year old EMs? Not that there anything wrong with this, just wanted to see how that usually works out.

Yes, definitely happens and isn’t really considered a big deal!

BA direct to EM is only in the US. Figured that’s already the case for you but might as well clarify.

hi all, currently have two offers:

1: EY - FDD, home city, very good $$ for FDD

2: PwC - post-merger integration, DDV team (essentially M&A Consulting) - bigger city, always been keen to move

Coming as a Senior in Audit, with recent FDD exposure (2 deals, obviously not much). I was looking for something more than just number crunching, wanting a mix of quant / quali / strategic work. M&A Advisory or a Corp Strategy role is where I'm looking to end up long term.

Thanks in advance!
