Black is correct. African Americans can be inaccurate because white South Africans are also African American and Haitians or other Caribbean island descendants aren't African. Saying black Americans softens it and is generally accurate, but then again might just be a black guy visiting, might not be American
Ask yourself why you are so uncomfortable saying 'black' vs ' brown or white'. What association do you make with it? UnconsciousBias ? Glad you're Acknowledging it. Thats respectable. #MyBlackIsBeautifulProudWise....
Good reply D2. Way to take on the issues head on
I'm brown (hispanic). Hope you're Hispanic too or you're stealing out designated color bro.
This is a weird post. I think the only weird thoughts are probably in your head.
Did OP forget the question?
Yes I do think it's unconscious bias, but I've developed it here. Gotta shake it off I guess
Accenture2 I don't know where you spend your time but I hope you don't follow those definitions.
A2 thank you for that very well done copy and paste of some 50 year old race narrative. We know what different races are because we're human and have lived on planet earth. Please continue to roll your emoji eyes until you truly feel superior to everyone else
I prefer to be called black than anything else. But there's a complicated history
Exactly D3- I referred to someone as Af-American this one time, and they got really offended. They said they were American and not Af Am. Im going to stick with black if it does end up coming up
From the NIH site. There's no brown here 🙄🙄🙄
Definitions for Racial and Ethnic Categories
The Revisions to OMB Directive 15 defines each racial and ethnic category as follows:
American Indian or Alaska Native. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America), and who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment.
Asian. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Black or African American. A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. Terms such as "Haitian" or "Negro" can be used in addition to "Black or African American."
Hispanic or Latino. A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race. The term, "Spanish origin," can be used in addition to "Hispanic or Latino."
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.
White. A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa.
What can brown do for you. Once you go black you never go back. White Castle.
¡Manos arriba mi gente Latina! 🙋♂️
D1 What? I'm Hispanic and definitely not "brown." Hispanic is NOT A RACE. There are black, white/European blooded Hispanics, Hispanics with indigenous blood and even Hispanics with Asian backgrounds. Before you call out someone else make sure you know what you're talking about.

Beat you to it EY1 *blows at his finger as if to blow smoke away from a gun barrel*
Why do you feel uncomfortable?
Thanks. EY2. I have been called a visionary thinker many times.
