Who is going to be paying taxes when AI replaces all these jobs?
You who have an income
One of the reasons why FAANG companies are laying off employees is improve profitability by reducing headcount where the high headcount was initially created due to highly internal political environments that rewards hiring bloat.
They’re trying to minimize employees and maximize shareholder value. They also saw Musk aggressively cut staff at Twitter while keeping the lights on.
And X is performing way better than Twitter did. Because most of the staff didn't actually do anything.

There many major factors to why companies in tech are terminating employees. Some deal with political climate, some due to Aye-Eye and some due to economic data. Overall, under the Biden administration, non farm jobs increase more than under Trump's regime. Additionally, the negative outlook on technology as a whole is more restrictive to tech under Trump. It does not help that the US is currently in a military operation against a religious regime that has control over technology inputs, oil and has a robust cyber threat component. These tech companies doing layoffs are trying to get themselves in a better cash flow scenario and preparing to route physical buildings in case it goes long or goes much deeper. Additionally, Aye-Eye has a been initially very effective in giving them the impetus to reduce staffing levels and let agentic do the bulk of prep work.
Yes, it is a competition of sorts, but thinking of financial footing more than headcount.
SkyNet will be live by October so this argument will be moot. Trump only cares about money in his pocket and how many people like him; solely.☮️💙
I totally agree with "Server1" is comment: " A president can push policy, sure, but at the end of the day corporations run on profit, stock price,..."
The reality is that most of these CEOs aren't really innovators anymore. They are all followers and they all watch what the others do, then follow along and try to keep up.
If one of these companies, just one, decided to go on a hiring spree and announced they were going to hire 10,000 people over the next two years, all the rest would do the same.
Why? FOMO and the fact that they really don't know what's going on any more than anyone else.
Yes, they all appear to be lemmings.
AI is here to stay and it will only grow from now. Adapt, adjust and move on.
Except AI can't actually do any job other than replacing email people.
Yes, it's how they pump their stock prices.
I hope this pushes a ton of people away from tech and into trades, logistics, shipping, transportation, helping people on the daily. They're way more gratifying jobs. May not pay as well, but lot happier people.
well maybe, but i figure that once they decide that they can connect AI to robots, that they will work to eliminate those jobs too, as they will claim that will save the company so much money on labor costs that the company will printing money, until it goes belly up
i dont think that the job cuts are really helping companies all that much anymore. but its what companies do and have done for decades now, as its the fastest way to look like the company is cutting spending without really doing so, its how they sold eliminating pensions without cutting the executive pension, which is actually much more of a drain on the company since executive pensions are more expensive. but you dont really see many executives loose their jobs all that often, but the rest of us, are just one bad quarter away from mass layoffs
The fact is all these big tech firms went on a hiring frenzy as COVID was ending and we were in the midst of the great migration. It did not matter that they were hiring not to fill positions but to hoard employees. They were hiring like God wasn't making anymore people so if you did not get yours now you would do without. Guess what job hugging means low turnover and the financial folks showed them what it's doing to the bottom line. C Suite is where they are to protect shareholder value and interests. It really does not matter who is in the white house
Well Developer / OP - when you created AI did you not realize it was going to come back to bite you?
This is one of the times I think it's reasonable to say "You only thought about if you could do it, not if you should do it."
This is just another indicator of the total insanity of today's world , regardless of race, religion, creed or political persuasion.
I’m a free-market capitalist, which is exactly why this deserves scrutiny. Layoffs get justified as “efficiency,” yet CEO pay and top-end comp barely move. If this were really about survival, leadership would be taking the same hit. It’s not. This is margin protection.
That kind of selective cutting has consequences. You hollow out the real middle class while protecting the top, and over time that destabilizes the system the market depends on. You can’t keep compressing the base and expect everything to function normally.
It is about time our elite class starts feeling real pressure from the consequences of these decisions.
The power brokers, political and social elites need to bear in mind that if people are pushed too far, THEY DO push back!
Seriously? This is what free market capitalism is all about. If you love it then you should endorse this.
Corporations exist for one purpose: To maximize share holder profit. Labor, in the form of high priced technical employees, is a huge part of expenses for a company.
When your competition has less overhead they are going to be able to show better profits. Other corporations either match them or get edged out.
If they in fact still need the workers they will each hire back the laid off workers of their competitors at a discount.
This is actually so real Bru especially that last statement 🤦♂️the state our country is in right now knowing it doesn't even have to be like this because this is all from choices and greed
If you think these layoffs are due to the economy then you should get your head out of the sand.
The rumor is that they are firing them, and then rehiring them as contractor, therefore, paying them less, and providing them no-benefit (no health, no bonus, no PTO, no 401(K) match, just a pay check but at lower salary
AI is a hoax, don’t be deceived!

Please to explain the aspect of hoax you mean? I really need to understand.☮️💙
This AI bubble will burst just like the dotnet fiasco. But until then, people will be impacted. Upskilling and finding niche-level jobs are the only way forward now at the moment!
Remember the movie "The Fifth Element", Zorg, CEO of MegaCorp, lays off 500k then says make it a million?
This economy is showing me many reasons to worry. I’m praying for a job to replace my contract that ends in June 2026. I’ve been looking for a replacement since the beginning of April. Corporate America needs to help its workers.
Hmm, the beginning of April is not enough usually, in my country if you want to change your job you have to start the search at least 1 year before or even more, anyway it's crazy hard to find anything now. Best of luck.
