🤦🏼♂️ bunch of boobs arguing over org charts. How much $ did you make?
Probably means two layers below the CEO or below the head of his function/business group.
I usually say CEO is N, N-1 is c-suite, N-2 is EVP/SVP/VP (depending on org)
That’s what I assumed, OPs goal to be a VP in 7-10 years didn’t make sense if starting two levels below CEO
What is an N-2 role? Not familiar with the term
Just out of curiosity, did you get pay upgrade, same or downgrade? (And what level did you leave BCG)
Not sure what your question is...up the hierarchy is the simplest answer but I doubt thats what you’re after. Can you clarify what you’re looking for exactly?
We typically use L1 for CEO, L2 for later two, etc. Path to VP really depends on the company. Sometimes it is quick, but could be a long time/never. Particularly if they don't rotate strategy people into the business lines. Surprise that you took the role without clear guidance on career trajectory, unless comp made it a no-brainer
If your goal is to move up, you need to get BU experience within touching distance of a P&L statement sooner rather than later. You won’t get there having never been an operator (typically)
“The last item indicates the position of the executive within the organisation: from chief executive officer (N-0), managing director (N-1), head of division or deputy head (N-2), to head of department (N-3 and N-4).”
Yup N-2 is two levels removed from CEO so could be reporting to business group or functional leads like BCG1 mentioned
What level did you leave BCG at, PL?
Yea, glad you’re doing the research. It does seem like someone reporting to a BU head or leading a vertical would know the routes to promotion in their bones. You’ll probably have to kill it in your Strategy role, run a P&L of substance, kill that, and then get recruited by a smaller firm to be CEO. Along with outstanding performance, your network and a good dose of luck will also be key.
