Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Lol shots fired

I know it sucks, but you’d be better off putting your energy towards finding a new job.
Grey NY and VML NY are/will be hiring. Huge account wins for both. Apply. Focus on the future.
Yeah FCB1, it seems thats the new favorite way to do lay-offs. Won’t make as many headlines for agencies or corporations.
Start looking. It’s probably something they decided weeks ago. Nice of them to give you a heads up though.
You don’t. The decision’s been made. Get your book in order and start looking. For what it’s worth—it was nice of your boss to give you a heads up. Area 23 is looking.
Don’t stress it.
You’re now a senior copywriter.
Why would you want to impress a place that put you there to begin with. You might wow them into keeping you around but when they have layoffs in 6 months you’ll be right back on the chopping block.
Exactly.
Thanks guys, I hear you all. I will definitely start looking elsewhere.
Just for some more context, my boss’s favorite form of motivation is fear. And he explicitly said I’m not performing at the level he needs me to. So, there’s a good chance this is just scare tactics. If that’s the case and it’s not set in stone, any tips?
I uprooted my whole life for this job and am just now getting settled so I would like to make it work.
Don’t work for a person who uses fear as a motivator. Ever. Find a job with a boss you respect and one day, become the leader that he/ she is not.
Wow consider yourself lucky for the heads up. Back up your shit and update your book asap. And take a week or so off before you jump into job hinting (if you can)
👆🏻ALWAYS take a week off before starting a new gig (if possible)!!!!!!!
Call a lawyer and get off the chopping block. You’ve got a good friend
Start looking. It’s most likely a finance decision and has nothing to do with performance.
Put your energy to the future. Look for what's new and next. Even if you got off the chopping block at the current place, you'll be anxious and paranoid about when it'll happen again. Not worth it. Get a head start on the hunt.
Considering it a favor and start looking. Don’t waste time trying to impress.
I feel that... I’m in a similar spot. Good luck, you’re not alone🖖
Start looking. Your boss kindly gave you a heads up. You can’t save yourself because it’s about finances.
You show your worth by hunting down your next job ASAP.
That shipped has sailed. Focus your energy elsewhere. The lay-off discussion happens far ahead of the actual day.
Ask for letters of recco from the people there that love you...good to have either way.
Decoded is hiring some too.
Focus your energy on finding a new role with a manager who respects people & who is a better leader.
Set yourself a goal that based on your final weeks or days, they will second guess their decision, and regret it once you are gone. Hold your head up high. Focus on the future. Be confident about your contributions past and future 🙏🏼
