Just remember, HR is not on your side
Yes! Be careful.
Don't go to HR, instead keep notes. Days, times, who else was present, what was said. Do this in a notebook, not on a work computer or phone. Do collect any emails or chats and print them out, but do not save them on a work device.
When you feel that you have documentation, even if it's things that were said vs. written, you can go to HR. See what they do. It is possible that they do little or nothing. It's also possible that the person may hear about it, and may retaliate against you. That is when you hire an attorney and being to negotiate a settlement.
You could also be fired. This gives you even better grounds for a legal case. But whatever you do, know that this is an emotionally draining, awful thing to go through. That isn't a reason to not do it, but the burden is on the accuser, not the accused, which is fucked up but there you go.
Why not set him up to get proof?
Uhhh....what?
Definitely consult a lawyer before bringing anything up (always the best thing to do in these cases...protect yourself and your job first!), but you are awesome for wanting to speak up! It’s an incredibly difficult thing to do and it sounds like he definitely deserves it if there is such a gender imbalance there.
that sucks, im sorry to hear that. If your situation allows, leave!!

Easier to leave and then out them?

It’ll take some time to line up something new.
Then don’t bring it up and start building an exit plan. You are not the target though? I guess you need to decide if you can deal with it. I imagine people like that are unlikely to change.
How senior is this person? Are you the target? Have you seen it yourself? If so, document everything. Date, time, what they did or said.
AD, before giving you accurate advice, it would be good to understand what this person is doing and why their actions can be considered objectively sexist. Any chance you could share?
