Been there and done that multiple times. The most useful item to get is an under the body sling to raise the rear of the body so he can walk on his front legs while going down the stairs - does not need to be fancy or expensive, you can even use a rolled up beach towel.
The more rehab / PT appointments you get him in for, the faster he will recover.
Hi. One of our dogs had acl surgery last year. We bought a ramp and stairs but he seemed to like the ramp better. However, he tends to sleep on his dog more often now (vs our bed). Our vet also recommended joint supplements after his surgery. We use Antinol.
I hope it all goes well!
Oh I’m so sorry! I couldn’t find any ramps that fit my dog’s needs so…I made one! Two 10 foot 2x4s parallel with three sheets of plywood. Then I added some AstroTurf. Not the greatest, but it helps my boy up and down the stairs! Cost about $70 in materials at Home Depot.
I had my dog use a wagon after surgery. She couldn’t bear any weight for about two weeks so when I would take her out instead of walking she was in the wagon and I’d let her out to pee. In the house I baby gated her in the room with me while I worked and then when I would go shower or something I crated her. She was also crated at night. We did this for about a month but it worked to keep her from jumping and running. She also never wears a collar, she’s a harness girl but she wore her collar at all times for eight weeks. That way I could hear the jingle and know when she was on the move.

No, the more you allow him to do for himself the stronger and faster he'll heal and become whole again
Sending you both love! I’m so sorry about the injury and hope for a speedy recovery.
