Do US hospitals let you know the variant now? A good friend of mine died a year ago and we only knew it was covid
Yes they do. One year back things might have been a little different and there were not many known variants as there are now. I am sorry for your loss.

There is no guarantee your friend would not have been affected as strongly had he been vaxxed. If we're going with anecdotal data, both my next door neighbors got covid earlier this year.
One was vaxxed and spent nearly 2 months in the hospital and was in and out of the ICU during that timeframe. The other was unvaxxed and it was no worse than a moderate flu for her and was out of her system in less than a week. Both in their 40s/50s. My sister also got covid a couple weeks ago (presumably Omicron) and is unvaxxed. It was effectively a mild cold for her and was done in a few days.
Over the summer a friend of mine who's a doctor at a big hospital chain in the south was posting stats on the mix of vaxxed/unvaxxed in the ICU for covid. Before she stopped posting the stats, it had climbed to nearly 20% for vaxxed and was increasing WoW.
Yes, the vaccines generally do prevent serious health consequences of contracting covid, but they are not a universal panacea. If someone wants to roll the dice on their health, that's their prerogative, no matter how much I might think they're an idiot or genius for it.
I cannot believe the lengths some people will go with these analogies to prove their point…
My friend who lives in Boston almost died with Covid being tripple vaxxed. His lungs almost collapsed with his oxygen levels being down to 80%. Crazy stuff but think it can go both ways
He got the booster on the 19th December and he tested positive on 24th and the weird part is that he was supposed to come see us for Christmas but his shortness of breath got progressively worse for the coming days. The day after his booster he couldn’t breath properly but had a oximeter in the house that show his O2 levels around 95% so he wasn’t sure if he should go to the ER so he waited. Ended up going to the ER on 23rd he felt tightness in chest, super congested and basically had to breathe from his mouth.
Tested his O2 levels again and he was around 89%. Seeing that he almost had a panic attack which made things worse, but went to the ER. He waited a while there and by the time they took him in and remeasured his O2 levels he was at 80%. Admitted him right away as his lungs could collapse. Next day he had other symptoms but tested negative for Covid. Same night got worse and tested positive.
Scary stuff but his ER doc didn’t really have any idea how this happened so fast cus it was unusual for oxygen levels to drop that fast even if you are Covid positive. He still swears by that the booster triggered something but I’m just glad he’s alive, def made our Christmas really uneventful.
No different than alcoholics with liver disease continuing to drink or a smoker with lung cancer continuing to smoke. Nothing you can do about it and totally a personal choice so don’t waste the energy concerning yourself.
EYP - we would be yelling at each other for not getting boosters, that’s where we would we.
It would evolve from vaccinated vs. unvaccinated to vaccinated vs. boosted.
Must be incredibly dense to say "oh it doesn't matter if you are vaxxed because my friend (sample size of 1) was vaxxed and became incredibly sick from covid." Umm yea of course it can happen, but the data overwhelmingly suggests that the vaccinated are far less likely to be hospitalized/have an extreme case of covid. So just go ahead, continue to be selfish, and roll the dice with your own health.
D6 with all due respect. When people are getting mad at people who are not getting vaccine is absolutely not because they are concerned for the anti vaccination person. They are mad because they will be the spreaders of this disease and Covid will not cease to exist. They will be occupying beds in hospitals and causing healthcare workers a world lot of trauma. Kids can’t go out and play.
Why - well because they do not believe in this. Really - that is their excuse? Medical and religious reasons aside- what are they thinking? My friend is a moron and absolute stupid to not get vaccinated.
Natural selection
Well as much as this may be true. It does not give solace to people who have lost a loved one to this highly contagious virus. We do not quite live in the stone ages for natural selection to take its toll and place. We try medicine. We try vaccinations. We try just about anything. Anything that might give us a chance to spend a day more with people we love. And
Agree that Covid is not a hoax. I’m not vaxxed and caught it a few weeks ago, as did my SO. Worst part was losing taste and smell for a few days. Otherwise, took a few hours off to nap (before I knew I had it) and was back running a week later. We are in our 30’s and healthy, so maybe not the typical experience. Just wanted to share as a data point.
Rising Star
Anecdotal, from a family friend who works in a hospital. They are overwhelmed and having to triage people on who has the best chance of survival. So far, being vaccinated plays a huge part in the decision based on their data, so unvaccinated patients are only getting palliative treatment when they are constrained. Even if unvaccinated patients are there first, they are not getting priority.

Americans of this generation have not lived through serious hardship and are intent on somehow turning COVID into one. Triage is one mean mother.

This is not a reputable source_Truth.
Do doctors advise getting vaccinated post infection? Haven’t heard of that before. Also curious about this practice of using names to define objects, instead of defining objects in order to determine their names
it is very common knowledge that people with previous infection should still get vaccinated…..
I'm currently having a flare-up of my long term covid symptoms. Almost 2 years after first getting covid. People are stupid if they liken it to a cold.
Regardless I can assure you that posting on an anonymous fb thread won’t give you answers you’re looking for. The only thing you could benefit from is to ask your friend about their hesitancy without automatically defaulting to judgment and having an open dialogue with them. Anyone else think it’s time stop letting this be so divisive?

Let God sort ‘em out.
Because i wanted to go to bars in NYC and they were all requiring it last june
Part 2
This statement is random nonsense that fails the tests that it set for itself.
There are no penalties for not getting other vaccines? Not being able to attend or send your kids to public schools is a pretty big penalty (tens of thousands per year). Not being able to attend college is a big.penalty. many employers also require vaccines.
There are no other vaccines that require boosters? Never heard of tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, or the flu. Oh wait those were exactly the ones that they mentioned at the start.
Maybe the poster just knows almost nothing about vaccines... But I bet they "did their research".
