My manager keeps suggesting I should volunteer for more presentations because it helps visibility, but speaking in larger meetings still takes a lot out of me. I know avoiding it probably limits growth. What helped if presenting did not come naturally?

I recall that you’re supposed to imagine everyone in the audience naked.

Practice is a good thing even when you aren’t particularly fond of what you are doing. Keep volunteering, but you don’t have to constantly. Try to find a balance there. Know the material well and know that most people get nervous and find it a lot to do.

The best way to get better at presenting is just to do it. Experience really is the best teacher. You can practice in front of a mirror, and prepare yourself at much as you can, but the only way to get comfortable in front of people is to actively do it. Your manager's advice is good. If you can volunteer to present, and perhaps start with things that aren't too ambitious, you'll get a feel for it.

Unfortunately what helps is presenting more. I have social anxiety and that was the best way to get used to it.

Getting a fidget toy helped me, but the best thing is just to do more talks

Currently a Wealth Advisor for Citi but I honestly hate it here with a passion it’s the worst company I’ve ever worked for in my life and I’ve been in Wealth Management in the banking channel for over a decade. I’m look to enter another area of Finance at this point instead of starting over somewhere else from scratch, but not sure what direction to go. Interested in Investment Banking or M&A.

Additional Posts in Science & Research

I am fairly green in academia (< 1 year) and I want to shift to an area of research which I always wanted to do but never could as a Ph.D. student (because of conflict of interest).
The issue I am facing is that due to lack of my documented research experience in this field (read, lack of papers) I am finding it very hard to land any grant and reviewers keep saying "The PI hasn't demonstrated any experience in said research" blah blah.
Any advice on how to overcome this?

I have been approached by 3 separate HR people at a startup company to interview for a position. I already have a fulltime job that pays well and I only started 6 months ago too. Anyways, the pay was intriguing and the job was a high level scientific advisor so I did interviews. At the last interview, at the end I was told the job was for management but I prepared for a different kind of interview. I am waiting for an offer or rejection letter. I feel peeved that they wasted my time. Red flags?
