My perception would be that DEI is easier in larger metropolitan areas, but maybe I'm wrong. What have you noticed?

We forget age is also diversity. Both Young employees and older employees.

I mean, yeah, that would make sense. You just gotta work with what you have available. Can't just relocate a bunch of people from around the country to meet some arbitrary quota.

That is a valid point. Like if you are a company in China, DEI is hard to do. You would do by gender then experiences. DEI is too rigid I think. When people mention it there’s really two thing that comes up: gender and diversity. If you don’t have the diversity then focus on the equity and inclusion and gender then experiences.

I suppose you are right in areas that are comprised of a greater percentage of minorities.

Maybe it’s a lack of experience, but this seems like common sense

Depends on how you look at it. Achieving diversity in race maybe challenging if your business is located in a rural area. But what about diversity in age, gender, ability, ect?

Also - diversity in headcount is only one peice of the puzzle. Why couldn't you drive equity and inclusion? Perhaps if you worked to create an equitable and inclusive work environment, you'd attract divers talent

Just landed a full time gig, looking to get some furniture so I’m not working on my parents’ kitchen table during this remote period. Any recommendations for desks and chairs? I’m hoping to find something that’s easy to assemble and break down for when I need to move, and something that won’t cost an arm and a leg.

I know everyone has a different kind of setup that works for them. I currently have a laptop, drawing pad, second monitor, and a desk riser.

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

I am frustrated as a Gay Woman who has given her all for 30+ years grinding to be the best. I have been in closet, out of closet, in-between and am tired of it. I want to be VALUED as a human being. I have gone from Rock Star to problem when people "found out". I have trained and promoted hundreds of people and been passed over for promotions because of not being a man. Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! My company has ERGs and one of them is pretty large and includes a lot of demographics. Latinx - help! We used this term in our diversity spotlight discussing Hispanic Heritage Month. One individual said that in English a group of Latinos would just be Latins to be gender neutral. I understand the word is controversial but is “Latins” grammatically correct? I assume we should just say Latin Americans, but trying to understand if Latins is also accurate.
