Congrats. I make too much to ever be eligible for any of these things, but it's good to know others out there are being freed from their chains
I don’t understand how they are deciding who gets it on this one.
For us, it was the one time adjustment correcting years of servicer mis management. We both hit 20 years so would have received forgiveness under REPAYE even before SAVE. Even then, we won't get back time lost - should've had PSLF years ago.
Good luck. I know it's been a long, hard road with so many dashed expectations. Hope they finally give relief to those stuck with exorbitant student loans.
I hope they do auto loans next. $1800 monthly is unbelievable.
Wish I could get back the $25,000 plus interest it took me to pay off over 25 friggin years. It’s crazy to think that they’re going to give some people relief and not the ones who went through the same thing but actually paid it off
By the time I finish—on IDR and with forgiveness after 25 years—I’ll have paid $400k+ on a loan that started at $110k because of high interest rates plus interest capitalization errors from a federal servicer who no longer exist but refused to provide transparent records of past payments/interest and never sent statements when they did exist. By forgiveness, I’ll still have a balance of $500k (after my 25 years of $400k+ payments) and have to pay ungodly income tax on the forgiveness almost equal to the original balance. To the person who complained about their $25k interest they want back, please tell me how I haven’t paid my fair share of my $110k loan and don’t deserve to have any of the remaining interest forgiven.
I hate the arguments people are making about how its not fair that their loans weren't cancelled and so on and so forth. We get it....its not fair. But is life ever fair? someone else not npaying their loans back won't get back the money you had to pay.
