Not to be dismissive but why were there two account people at an edit (especially for 14 hours)?
Sadly this seems to be becoming more common as bosses hoard billable hours for themselves In order to avoid the axe. Its the opposite of leadership behavior but the way agencies are run these days, if you aren’t billable you are at risk
He probably doesn’t know how to manage or delegate. Speak to him, but also start creating relationships with other people in the team or agency and find your way into working on your client.
@D5 thank you for the helpful advice
1 - think of something proactive you can do 2 - get friendly with planners and creatives on the account 3 - talk to someone who’s senior to him on the account about the idea, doesn’t matter which department. Something along those lines should work.
Talk to him.

I’ve debating saying it more directly – that he needs to let go and let me assist or lead is some way. But he knows that I want to help and that I’m bored, as is my AAM, so any discussion feels like I’m either telling him what to do or insulting his ability to manage us. I’ve raised the issue to our account lead too, but have seen no changes.
The AAM and I are willing and ready to help. I don’t understand what value we have sitting around.
@Grey 1 my being there was the second time I had a 14-hour day of “shadowing” even though I’m fully aware what happens in post and have been the sole account person dozens of times before arriving at this agency a month ago.
It’s been a month and you have already spoken to his boss? You may want to chill a bit.
