My wife and I average $800-$1000 monthly on groceries for just us. Live in metro ATL. We cook a lot and mostly go organic on produce and certified humane on proteins, which is worth the extra cost to us. That said though, is this an insane amount to spend on groceries?! What do you spend?

We average $500/month on groceries and $400/month on eating out. Family of 3. We cook about 80-90% of all meals. We eat like kings. All kinds of meat, all kinds of veggies, different types of cuisines. So, even $800/month on just groceries for two people sounds a lot for Atlanta. We're in a similar sized city so don't know how we can spend 300 more on top of our current spend. Unless I'm buying lobster and crabs and steaks for most meals.

This isn’t crazy. 2 adults + a toddler here in Boston suburbs. We do one grocery trip a week that usually runs us ~$125, then we’ll order in a couple times each week which tacks on another $100 or so.
Total spend in Jan for all groceries, takeout, fast food, coffee, etc. was around $1,150.
Almost all of our dinners we make also turn into leftovers for lunch a day or two later (for us and the little one)

uplifting

Woah… i spend 250 a month just for myself . I scan NON organic bar codes for my organic fruit… lol

funnylikesmarthelpful

The funny thing is the user said they spend 250 per person. OP said 400 per person on the low end. Which makes sense if they’re buying all organic and healthy. An extra 150 per month isn’t that insane

I’m in LA and spend $400 on eating out and $100 on groceries. This includes alcohol too. I’d guess my partner spends the same on eating out and $400 on groceries, so in total $800 on food and drink and $500 on groceries. We probably could spend less but we enjoy dinners out with friends, organic food, quality meat, and nice wine.

Good god… we spend MAYBE 300 a month max also in ATL…. Pro tip, Kroger is WAY cheaper

I feel you I have a family of five and prefer to eat organic and humanly raised animals.

If you have the storage give Costco a look. I do the bulk of my shopping there and just run to my local store for the stuff I can't find there.

I have two full fridge freezer combos and a deep freezer. Kids eat a lot!

We spend $400 for a family of four. That said, I make my own sparkling water and bread.

On par with our bill for dineout and groceries at 1k from cali

Live in Chicago.

I probably average about $60 a week in groceries and spend $40 on eating our for lunch a few times a week etc. Have a $4,000 annual budget for this type of spending.

This does not include eating out with friends/vacation spending which all goes in its own entertainment bucket which I have a separate budget for.

Yes!
At this point you might as well grow your own produce or go to farmer markets or go straight to the suppliers and cut out the middle man.

Lastly you guys can become farmers on the side

My parents have done the same my whole life (greater atl area). When it was 4 of us they would spend 400 to 500 a week. I think it is down to 250ish a week now that it is just them. That does not include eating out. They mostly shop at whole foods and buy greenwise products

Check out sunbasket

That’s a lot but since you are eating organic and certified humane on proteins, that makes sense. My husband and I live in Brooklyn and we spend around $700/month on groceries and do most of our grocery shopping at Aldi via Instacart. We have started eating more vegetarian meals during the week and then pick a special cut of meat for the weekend. It’s healthier, more environmentally friendly and cheaper.

In the same boat as you. We cook a lot. About 250 a week per grocery shopping but that also includes other essentials like bath products. Just me and my partner

I spend a lot on groceries too. You do you. You only live once. Enjoy life, including eating healthy and delicious foods at home.

Two in our family and we usually eat in. My husband loves to cook and we spend $700-800 a month on groceries. I exclude booze and non-grocery items from the receipt so thats just straight groceries. We don’t get all organic, but usually. And we get the special cage free, free range, eggs.

We spend about $1000 a month for two in NYC, which is probably as low as we can go unfortunately here

I’m right there with you OP. Also in Atlanta too.

Looked back and my wife and I spent about $1k on groceries in January, and only $128 on eating out. We did Whole30 and it’s the most we’ve ever spent on groceries, but the least we’ve ever spent on eating out, so I’ll take that as I win. Gonna try to keep the trend going. I agree with what some others have said: spend how you want, even if that means spending more on eating healthy!

We also spend this and I keep wondering how people are budgeting less 😅

Thanks!! This helps. We really buy fresh food and meat. Very minimal on frozen items so I guess that’s why

$500 for 2 - meal prep service
$400 for 2 - eating out

What meal prep do you guys use?

This sounds about right given the up charge for organics and feel-good food (call it the ESG tax). My girlfriend and I easily do that amount or more a month but we eat out a lot as well.

I have been selected at citi but HR is unable to release offer letter. This is because I have worked for citi as contractor or consultant in past but I don't remember my SP ID or GP ID which Citi provides to its temporary employees. HR is checking my SP ID or GP ID which was allocated to me in the past but I don't recall it is. HR is checking this with US team and this process is taking time. If they cannot extract it due to some reason, will they release my offer letter? Please clarify this.
