My wife and I moved our family here ~1.5 years ago. We live in Ballantyne. I feel like we are in a culinary desert. We came from Austin where even a lot of the QSR options were non-chain. Does anyone have any restaurant recommendations for anywhere south? Looking for a good places for tacos, thai and pizza.

Lam’s Kitchen is the best fine dining Chinese restaurant I’ve been to. Give it a try.

like

Is it just me, or does all the food just taste like Charlotte? No matter where we go, it’s like they all buy their ingredients from the same place.

like

Ok, that make me literally LOL

like

Join Charlotte Foodies on FB. Very active community that post recommendations (and warnings).

like

Yes defiantly so we live in Ballentyne also and for

Tacos we like the following: velvet taco, RuRus, Sabor (cheapest) empanadas are better then their tacos tho

Thai- basil Thai, Thai 1st bistro

like

Tacos el Regio
Curry Gate
Jasmine grille

like

Thai house.

like

Yes. They are kind of Americanized but their location in University is the best in my opinion.

Will be following this. Moved here from Dallas and still trying to find my faves :(. Recommend following andrewloves_ on Instagram as he reviews and recommends alot of places and some are out that way.

I was back and forth from Austin (my boyfriend lived there for work) quite often the past two years. I would say that Austin has 10x better food than Charlotte unfortunately. I would suggest trying Para or Yunta though! Use yelp, that’s how I survive out here.

There is one in Raleigh

Brooklyn style pizza parlor off colony rd is amazing!

like

I’d say the dinner plates are better at Hawthorne’s (e.g. penne vodka with grilled chicken), but haven’t tried the pizza there so can’t really compare. Brooklyn’s chicken rolls are delicious too.

Rai Lay Thai is really good! A little on the pricer side, especially for takeout, but worth it for sure.

Sushi game is on point at Ray Lay! 🍣

Have you tried Portofino’s?

like

We go to the Arboretum location…love it.

Paco’s Tacos in Southpark is pretty good. I’m from LA so I feel the pain lol

like

Buffalo Pizza -> Bisonte is the best!!! Get it Buffalo style with the garlic crust

like

Tried a lot of taco places but my fav is Tacos for Life in Arboretum. Also in Arboretum is Vicious Biscuit and Peeps for breakfast. New South is small but food is good. Link and Pin I found to be overrated and expensive. If you like sushi, Prime Fish on Providence Road. Lacks ambiance, pricey but the freshest sushi around. If you want good but economical go to New Zealand Cafe — shopping strip seems a bit sketch but quality sushi at a good price. Bistro D’Antonio for Italian also in Providence Road but in Waxhaw. And 131 Main has a lively vibe and good food.

like

We have tried Tacos for Life and enjoyed it. Our kiddos love the William Davie playground nearby. We’ve also been to Le Peep. My brother lives in KC and they have those there. Pretty solid breakfast. We’ll have to try out those other recommendations.

Rice and Spice for that good hole-in-the-wall Thai food. Owned by the same folks at Rai Lay but closer to you!

like

Oh man. Oh man. I got my fingers crossed. I feel like a go-to Thai place is what we’ve struck out the most on. Probably up to 7 places now.

There’s a good sushi place in Ballantyne - Jade I think?

There's a great Indian cuisine restaurant called The Blue Taj in Ballantyne.

like

Unfortunately, I’m like Ben Stiller’s character in Along Came Polly when it comes to Indian cuisine, but my wife loves it!

Sorry to say, no food here.

funny

Viva chicken, yama, thai orchid, inizios, cabo fish taco, thai taste, white duck taco, marias, deejai thai, mal pan, portofinos, brooklyn pizza, hawthornes pizza, sals pizza

The Cabo in Ballantyne is average. The good Cabo is in Noda.

It's one of the nicest complexes in the city, has close proximity to Uptown, and has excellent amenities (e.g. CrossFit style gym, two pools, dog park, on site complimentary cafe, etc.). My unit has an ideal layout for work from home and a huge patio.

Edit: $3,196/mo including valet trash pickup ($35) and pest control ($4)
