I recently graduated from law school and have started my clerkship in the superior court of NJ. Once done with my clerkship, I’m hoping to work in employment law (defense). I’ve seen online that Jackson Lewis is hiring at their Berkeley Heights, NJ location. Can anyone give me any insight on what it’s like to work at JL? culture? First year associate salary? Do what’s best for you. If they don’t handle it professionally it’s an indication that being a partner there would be great. Source: I moved from small/mid firm to a biglaw firm 5 years ago and got walked out the next day, after being told if I stayed I’d be up for partner a year earlier and how important I was to the firm.
Edit, but I think people understood: wouldn’t*
Make sure your cases are all caught up and there are no super tight deadlines then make sure that you give enough notice.
Not your fault that you've made your wishes known and they haven't at least had a conversation with you about it.

Yeah, don’t worry about those relationships so long as you do everything professionally. I left a midsize firm and received a partnership offer and an invitation to return back, but I never took it and they never reached out to stay connected to me. You’ll be talked about for a while then people will move on as they always do.
I did this a long time ago. One partner wished me well and the other basically told me I was dead to him and hoped I fail. Be tactful, respectful, and do what you think is right. If you do that, it’s all you can do because they will spin it whatever way they want to based on their own internal narrative.
