Make it very simple. I’m not sure if the type of industry you’re speaking to, but I find that the majority of the people don’t have a clue about the markets. LeVe the industry jargon at the door... talk about share accumulation in down markets, and how dividends and interest works, and touch lightly on compounding... I always start with loosely explaining income, growth and income, growth and aggressive... then I go through the fund lineup and have them mark which ones are which. I don’t go too into detail about the funds because it will go over their heads. But this way if they want to be aggressive they’ll know what to pick and if they want to be conservative they’ll know what to pick.
Thx for you help
Make sure to talk about the glide path of target date funds. May get too conservative for older employees willing to take more risk. Are you offering asset allocation models? Are you using R6 shares? Signing on as a 3(21) or 3(38) co-fiduciary?
It is not the R6 shares , it is the r5 shares ( advisory ). The cpa and tpa liked that share class. The owners of the company are even paying the advisory charge.
Step by step:
1.) introduce yourself, your background, and how you can be of service to the employees.
2.) benefits of participating in a 401k plan
3.) match (if there is one), vesting, withdraw provisions and loans (if you/TPA added this option.)
4.) walk through the funds from a 30k foot view. ‘1-step ‘/Target Date Options vs ‘do it yourself’ approach. Are you using all AF funds or open architecture?
5.) talk about the 800# and website (screen shot or two)
6.) open the floor up for Q&A (put your name/number and email at the bottom IF you want them to start reaching out to you with questions.
Good luck!
