Obviously every workplace culture is different, so I guess this is just venting and curiosity if anyone has had a similar experience and what the outcome was—if you have unlimited PTO but also an in-office requirement, do you find yourself taking a lot of days off? My boss is a stickler for in-office and has said she would rather us take PTO than work remotely but I don’t fully trust that if I take the time it won’t come back to bite me.

Seems like a trap to me, but I’d get that in writing in case you have to take PTO for Drs appointments, commitments, etc.
Idk if it would help in the long run, but at least you can point to it if you get questioned about using PTO for those kind of days when you could’ve worked remotely.

Unlimited PTO is pretty much always a scam to make you take less PTO than you are entitled to.

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

Got another perm offer in a different industry for similar salary, but I might have to relocate and I'm concerned the work may involve translation instead of pure legal work.
