Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Just don't get a bad review.
This will make you step up your game and prepare you for future high burn projects, you got this!
Typically bad reviews stems more from bad behaviour, including from smart folks..
Makes sense, OP! One of my first projects at Deloitte sounds similar to the one you are doing. Had to very clearly articulate my needs to my manager - for example, “I am just wrapping up this draft but will need 1 hour more to do quality assurance such as checking for typos and double checking my analysis so you have a high quality doc to review/send to client. Would you prefer I take 1 more hour to check this or do you want me to send you the draft as is for review?” Those kinds of sentences tended to help a lot in my case and I hope they work well in yours if you choose to use them...and quality assurance is technically the managers responsibility so offering to take this off their plate is never a bad thing 🙂 they’ll usually say yes to giving you more time because they always have other work to do in the mean time
No you’ll be fine. It’s hard to get a bad review unless you actually suck
Setup daily checkpoints with whoever is managing you on this project to get frequent feedback on progress and plans.
Also get detailed feedback in writing on where you aren’t meeting the cut so you can adjust accordingly.
I had a check point discussion with my manager earlier this week and he basically said I need to turn things around fast. I’ve been having a problem adjusting to the pace of this project for some reason. I have a great attitude and have proven i am a hard worker
Thanks for the replies guys. This is the first time this has ever happened to me so I am a little taken back by it
@Slalom Yeah that’s my plan. I made sure to ask how I can improve and wrote them down. I plan on having very frequent checkpoints
Also stay positive and don't let it bum you out!
I hate feedback that is just ‘work faster.’ There is a trade off with working faster which is the quality of work is at risk. Managers want everything in the world so it’s up to you to manage up! I’d recommend clearly verbalizing what you need from your manager/the project to produce high quality work if they’re asking you to “work fast." In my experience getting year end feedback that your work isn’t quality is significantly more detrimental then feedback that you usually need a little more time on things (but everything usually turns out great).
You might also be just having a jerk as a manager...
Also a developmental area for your manager might be estimating level of effort for tasks. So this could be upward feedback...Your client also may be crazy or difficult...therefore the high burn speed. Basically try your hardest and manage up, but at the same time it’s also not all on you to be a speed demon at producing work
@deloitte2 Thanks for the advice! I really appreciate it.
You are not at risk but if you get a low performance flag on the shapshot that would put you automatically in the next talent review, and you will be reviewed regularly. Do regular check ins, ask for feedback, show you work on it so hopefully you can avoid the 'flag’
@Deloitte Digital 1 agreed. Thanks man
@deloitte2 good points. Thanks. A problem I’ve been having on this project is that there is an expectation turn around deliverables fast and unfortunately due to the urgency my quality hasn’t been up to par.
@deloitte4 oh ok thanks. When you say Talent Review... is that a separate review for people that received a low rating on a project?
No - you aren’t automatically in every talent review - only if you’re up for promotion or, as D4 mentioned, if you’re flagged for “watch”. Do the check-ins, ask for feedback and don’t wait - take a tip from Agile methodology and rather “fail early” so you have time to do some course-correction.
