One morning after a night out, I woke up in a stupor and believed it to be Saturday when it was actually Friday.. Only later in the weekend did I realize that I had completely missed work Friday, didn’t log in or talk to anybody.

When I came back to work on Monday and began to assess damage, my manager / team acted like nothing had happened and my team lead was OOO so they didn’t notice. No meetings were scheduled but expected to be fired/screwed, will always worship that Manager and team

Career advice that I give to the people I manage- do one more thing everyday that you weren’t going to do or didn’t feel like doing- for your team or for your client. Could be notes, a follow up, a reminder, raising your hand to tackle and drive something-whatever. That little extra effort against something you didn’t “have” to do, every day, overtime will make you invaluable

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

How is WLB at JPMC, Mumbai for CIB?

Have competing offers from EY and KPMG UK Economic advisory teams( Manager/Snr Exec level). KPMG's UK technical rep and comp offer is better, but the hours appear longer. EY UK Director has had several calls selling culture (diversity and work life balance). Is there actually a substantive emphasis on this by EY? Or are 50+ hour weeks quite common?

I suspect it's going to be quite team dependent/ project dependent, and therefore a gamble in any case.

But now I only work and watch tv and sleep. I’ve been trying to get a hobby, but I’m not motivated… I get home and I want to keep working. Any tips to create that work life balance?

I was a fresher when i joined wipro
My manager has given me rating 1 in confirmatory appraisal on may 18 may which happened after completion of 1 year at wipro.
I raised the issue of rating with my manager immediately , he convinced me not to worry , ratings are already submitted , I asked him to resubmit cause i don't deserve rating 1
So he said he will look if that is possible but didn't changed .Now after 3 months they are pressurizing me to put a resignation,what should i do?

My older sister is an extremely talented woman. She knows everything brand design, graphic design and ideation. The list goes on with what she can do and it is all self taught. If your goal is to be as high ranking of an in house counsel position as possible, how would you structure your career progression? Is it better to stay in big law as long as possible and then transition as a partner, or is it more valuable to get relevant experience by going in house as a mid level/senior associate? After leaving BL, what salary do most people settle at or is that way to general of a question?

3rd year associate. Former fed law clerk. Working at ID firm. Doing slip and falls and wrecks. Recently received big law offer to do products. Really want to go. Gave notice to current firm. Current firm really wants me to stay, counters that it will try to get me salary as close to big law offer and give me complex work. Stay at ID firm or accept big law offer?

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)
