Outside of the standard certifications you hear about here (CPA, CIA, CISA, etc.), what would be a good up and coming certification? Would CISM or CISSP be applicable? I want something that can be transferable to industry if I decide to leave public in the next few years.

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?

Perspective. I’m retiring from the service and I’ve positioned myself decently to be competitive. I have a graduate degree pursuing a doctorate, LSSBB, ScrumMaster, SPHR, and PMI-ACP. Currently a first year staff in Risk Advisory in a Mid-Tier Firm hoping to move to Big 4 for either Risk or Cyber. When would be the most appropriate time to make the change? I heard that Senior Staff in mid-tier would most likely be hired as an “Experienced Hire” in Big 4.
