Parents in public accounting, what are your strategies for balancing the stress and anxiety of a new baby with the demands of public accounting life? Feels impossible to be in the office (hybrid), helping with the baby, keeping up the house/yard, staying active, etc.

Outsource as much as you can financially. I am sure there are other strategies but taking some of those tasks off your plate will help some.

My wife go about 6 months off when having our kods.... So that was helpful. But when she was back to work, it was difficult. But my job flexibility allowed me to really take hold of a lot of the child duties to help out. After the second one... That became tougher, as her hours seemed to increase more and more. She would hardly see the kids and I was drowning trying to keep all afloat myself. And while she was up for partner, we decided a life outside of public accounting was a much better option. Now she works 40ish hours, makes better money, and actually has a home life. So maybe we failed at making the public accounting world work. 🤷 Or did we? 🤔

Delegate low skill tasks that you can pay someone a fair wage for. Only allocate your time to things that are important to you. It takes a village to get by these days without over stretching yourself thin trying to do everything yourself.

My wife stays at home and doesn’t have a job outside the home. Totally worth it in our opinion

like

For sure. Our decision was driven by our opinion that it’s better for our kids, but I’ve definitely seen how it’s made me a lot better at my job because my wife does a lot more around the house to I do

Outsource as much as you can. I no longer do any landscaping and we have a cleaning lady twice a month

I took an industry job and we have hired help. My spouse is still in public.

My husband moved to internal audit at a large private company that's flexible and mostly 9-5. I stayed in public but am on a 75% schedule. Still feels impossible most days now that the kids are in a thousand activities.

If you can manage it financially and your firm allows go to a modified schedule. This allowed me to continue my career and balance family life.

Me and my partner are not sure whether we want to have kids . Sometimes we want to and the next day we are completely against the idea . The reason we want to have kids is that we want to grow our inner circle , have more people in this world who we can call our family. And we don’t want to have kids is that it will put extra pressure on us , less freedom for next 10-15 years. Wanted to understand why people have kids or don’t have kids . Please share your thoughts :)

What is work-life balance like in big tech legal? I’m currently in house at a large multinational; I like my job and I get paid fine, with a very good WLB (40-45 hrs). I want to look into FAANG-type opportunities as they would mean a huge pay bump, and I think I’m qualified, but I have no idea about the hours, and I don’t want to substantially give up WLB, as that’s why I left BigLaw. I don’t want to be miserable again. I know Amazon is poorly reputed for lawyer WLB… what about other places?

I'm assuming the LS practice has more reasonable WLB than the rest of the firm, since LS folks aren't always chugging along on DDs.

What’s your work-life balance like? I feel like I’m constantly working after hours, always balancing multiple projects, hardly ever going through a phase where there isn’t a ton of critical initiatives going on. It definitely wasn’t like this when I was a more junior PMM, but as a Senior PMM, my work-life balance has severely decreased. Is this just the nature of Product Marketing? Or can I actually find a senior PMM role that allows a bit more room to breathe?

So… 3.5 year relationship came crashing in Jan due to covid depression, work burn out, lockdown etc. We have stayed in contact and recently he has come around to apologizing and considering getting back together. However he also revealed he started seeing someone casually 4 weeks ago and technically is cheating on her by meeting me for coffee and to discuss this. I’m upset that he’s dating others but shouldn’t be right? I mean, I did the same. Still hurts though. And I told him to sort that out

Hi there, I’ve been told that Deloitte (London, UK) is going to make me an offer but haven’t heard back and it’s been over two weeks. The recruiter mentioned it would be around the “m2 grade”. Does a work life balance exist?
