Hella low bruh my boy Topher is making $300k base at meta with $200k RSUs and 50-75% bonus with 2 yoe. I guess not everyone can be exceptional though
We'll see how those RSUs
The worst is when people equate low six figure salary to poverty
EY2, by poor, can you clarify what you mean? Can you afford groceries and rent for the week without fear of a missed payment?
Lol. I’m 28 and I make $230k and I think that’s low af. My salary seems low when I compare myself to my peers and see some of them raking in $300-400k
I work for Zadddyy Bezos. AWS cloud infrastructure stuff.
I’m basically a workaholic and that’s all I do with my life. So the money kinda comes with the territory 🤪

Why does it affect you?
I see the lost time going to college valid to an extent, but even at colleges like UCLA the average mid-career salary is ~$129K. So even among those who go to top schools, people who make that much shortly after graduating are the privileged of the privileged and should stay humble
https://www.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/netcomp.cgi?year=2021 interesting wage statistics here.. making 120k a year makes you into the top 91% of wage earners in 2021

This is true but the majority of people here grew up relatively affluent, went to top colleges, and now live in major cities and work at places where everybody they know / see is the same and is making as much or more. Its a bit of an insulated bubble.
Pretty sure $120k is legitimately considered low income in San Francisco lol. So it could have to do with most of these people living in expensive places.
But also yeah they’re just surrounded by peers making similar or more. Go to the poorer areas of your fancy city if you want a reality check…

That’s for a family I’m pretty sure. I think for an individual the low income threshold is more like $85k
Context is always necessary
All generations have their battles, current generation's is one of abundant inequality.

People can ask for me, what’s wrong with that?
There should be gratitude sprinkled in there that supports competitive and their motivational aspirations.
Most people are in their own bubble so they don’t know what reality is outside of their perception.
It is tho
Yes
$500k by 30 is no big deal anymore. So many in finance and tech hit that with no problem. That's like the new benchmark for a decent salary by 30. 😹
What does a “decent” salary mean to you? Making more relative to other finance and tech people?
…and in the same breath, unironically, they complain about a recession
