Coach
Unfortunately there's no way (yet) to speed up time.
Here are factors that go into credit history:
- time
- types of credit accounts, the varied the better
- repayment on time
- outstanding balance vs total credit
How long have you been in the States? Immigrant here, I was able to buy a house after 5 years. I agree with the comment above.
Maybe not the most helpful but if you can, maybe research and give it a try
1. Opening a personal loan. I did $1k just so I have different type of credit account and then paid it right away.
2. I was lucky that my mom moved here 10 years before I did, but if your parents did too and they have ok credit, maybe try asking if you can be added as an authorized user in their credit cards, it might help your increase your credit history time wise.
You don’t have to have a perfect credit to buy a house so it’s okay if it dips just a little bit as long you don’t go below the excellent credit which I believe is 720 and up. Keep building!
I’ve been here for about 8 years and I’ve been an authorized use on my spouse credit cards for about 4 years. My issue wasn’t a low score. It’s just that even if the score is almost 800 they had told me that I have a thin file. How do I make my file fat? I have a credit card, authorized user on another 3 credit cards, car loan and automatic payments for bills that go on my credit reports. Should I add new credit cards? I’m definitely getting a small loan. Thanks for the tip!
Are you a us citizen? Mortgage application asks that, if here on a visaH1b...there will be requirements to satisfy there because from lender standing what happens if you visa expires in 2 years and you signed up for a 30 year mortgage. If not here on a visa H1B and are not us citizen you might find it difficult to get a mortgage regardless of credit standing. If a us citizen, then have a lender pre-approve you most lenders can give you underwriting results and tips to get approved.
I’m a USC as of a couple years already so that part should be easier.
