When I interviewed with PwC, I had offers from AT&T and Capgemini for $80k. PwC came in slightly lower and I told them I had the other offers. PwC split the difference.
When I was an associate I got an offer from EY for 25% raise, same title no signing bonus - I was immediately very transparent with KPMG (primarily my performance manager) that this was on the table. They essentially said stick around until promotion time so I did and they more than matched EY, plus a significant bonus and promotion. I felt it was too early to jump ship (<2 years) and I valued the title and maintaining the internal network early on in my career
...remember the reason you decided to start looking isn't going away (more than likely) because you got more money. And know that now your RP knows you're a stray dog.
Ok cool. If you were in my situation now would you start with sending an email to your RP to speak? Is that the appropriate method?
If you have the other offer in hand, talk to your RP and be candid.
Yes that is the case and my inclination as well. Any other advice appreciated :)
Hmmmm
Awesome thanks
To be clear I do not want to leave but want to get a salary bump at the performance review phase - the candid discussion would involve me stating those facts. The salary bump would be significant at the other firm but no bonus.
Sounds similar to my situation - just see how the conversation goes...I'm assuming the offer is for a similar practice so it isn't a matter of changing the type of work you're doing ?
Nope it's actually changing the type of company as well although I guess the type of work I would be doing is similar
I struggled with this. The advice I got in my situation was not bring it up. It was for $40k more too. Reason, I was told they might just tell me to take the offer and leave. The offer was good, but the timing was bad...
Why didn't you leave and who told you to not bring it up?
I live in a low cost market, and the offer was in a high cost market. The cost of living adjustment didn't cover the difference. I had heard anecdotally that my practice lead didn't take well to people asking for matches. I also have tons of time off saved up, which I wanted to use this summer for my wedding and honeymoon. Like 3 months worth.
