Pretty junior attorney at a small ID firm in NYC. I’m realizing that ID has almost no room for career growth and I hate the work. Any tips on how to break out and get into another firm? Looking to potentially get into corporate or M&A.

As an ID lifer, it’s not so bad once you get clients (took me almost 15 years). There’s also more sophisticated stuff you can do that might be better - professional liability, products, coverage, etc. Unfortunately to actually escape, you… need to get clients. Network as much as you can, I’d recommend joining a local bar association affinity group in your target practice area and then going all in volunteering there to network with more senior attorneys in that practice area. The easiest way out is to try to go in-house for an insurer or do employment ID work and then go in-house to a client but neither of those seems all that much better. Feel free to DM me if you’d like to chat more, good luck!

Your best bet is to find a truly entry level position for those practice areas. M&A is going to be extremely difficult as those entry level positions are usually filled with new graduates that already had jobs lined up (aka big law). Try to find a commercial litigation firm that is hiring entry level attorneys, but it could take a while. If you don’t hate your current practice area you can always try and go plaintiff-side, although the day to day is quite different than what you’re doing now.

Hello,

Currently, in accenture. I have had very bad billable hours and not much achievement this fiscal year. I am worried of getting fired, so i applied for another job. Got offered may be 5% above my current pay with 5k bonus, but in lower level at Deloitte. I think working lower level will give me more opportunities to learn as i think i have lot to learn. I made decision based on my gut and accepted the offer. I have not talked to anyone on accenture side yet. What you think?

I was just talking to a younger friend who goes to Cal and It seems like the kids these days hate FAANG or at least Amazon and Facebook are not desired at all. I personally don’t see too many issues working at either Amazon or Facebook because I work at Deloitte where I’m sure we have many questionable clients and worked in financial services before. Curious on whether people are thinking about the ethics of their exit company when deciding to move?

Does anyone become more jaded towards their company / being in consulting by being on this app / seeing what is posted in their company bowl? I feel like this is the place to talk about things we typically wouldn’t talk about in the larger workplace setting (which is great, don’t get me wrong), but can’t help but feel that this app definitely helps me see the ugly side (more so than the nice side) of consulting.

Question! I just moved(transferred) to another team of my company and received new title, graphic & creative services. I was a senior graphic designer at the previous team. What do you think about my new title? I know that title is not a big thing but why I feel like my title is downgraded here… Good thing is my jobs here at my current team are what I really wanted to do. This is amazing. I love my new team and people here! Super healthy working environment! But just curious about the title.

I just got a new job, but it's not what I expected. I was expecting a career opportunity and a chance to learn and grow in my field, but instead I'm stuck doing the same thing as before, just from home.

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.

Has anyone found a way to automate salary certifications?

We get about 3-5 requests daily to fill out salary certifications for our employees in EMEA.

At the moment, we have to do all of them manually. We open a pdf, then open their employee file and plug away. It's tedious and time-consuming, but the banks I found won't accept an internal salary certification for some reason. They're adamant about using their form. Has anyone come across this?

I currently work at a small PI firm in Atlanta were EVERYTHING is settled presuit. If we’re unable to settle, then it’s referred to another firm for litigation.
