Tata Consultancy I am a manager in Capgemini... have an offer frm TCS. the designation being offered is Assistant Consultant.. 9.8 years experience( 5 yrs with Cap) Even though I am getting a package of 25Lakhs.. it seems like a demotion in designation.. It's tough to say. I think this all depends on being in the right place at the right time. At An organization with a very built out team you'll need to be fairly well versed to move up. At a startup or smaller organization where there's very little SEO knowledge you could move up faster.
Idk the reason for trying to get to this role (other than money or status?) but in my 10+ years experience what matters more than time is your expertise. Expertise, although it does take time to learn and actually have real world situations, you could theoretically get there faster.
There are many areas you can go in: technical/engineering SEO (where I'm in), content SEO, SEO account manager, SEO data analyst, SEO strategist, SEO product manager. I've seen these roles grow out of just 1 or 2 back in the day. Now these are all solid roles in their own right.
Learn as much as you can and get as much experience as you can. Anyone can Google or reference a blog post or webmaster forum to find answers but when you get to the higher rungs, you need to know your stuff really well to make critical decisions with many variables - especially at enterprise level.
Job-hopping makes promotion track faster, TBH. I find that soft skills have been what helped me get where I am - communication, empathy, managing teams, process improvement, teaching, selling, getting buy-in. I have SEO specialists who know more than I do about nuts and bolts SEO tactics. But they don’t want my job 😂
