CD, Ok eventually it will happen, if you have no valid proof or info, your statement is pointless. It’s like saying, “it’s going to rain.” Well ok, either it’s going to rain today or tomorrow or not. If advertising dollars are down now as inflation stabilizes, why would they spend less in ads? If you’ve been in this field long enough you know it has ups and downs. Our profession has never been secure. Just stop the scare tactics.
It’s not a recession though. They changed the definition. Everything is fine.
No offense, but without any credible context besides “trust me bro” … kinda sounds like a CD got a ‘tip’ from a finance bro friend or something? 🙄 …
I live on Wall Street and hear this back forth “Listen to me! You better stuff your money in the mattress asap vs. Ok Howard Hughes take a Xanax” argument at the bar every week. But ALL the money crowd seems to agree, the best way to guarantee the least optimal outcome is for everyone to buy into all this media whipping worst case scenario(s) + hard stop individual spending en masse to premptively “protect themselves” much more than what is necessary.
Please keep in mind that every single doomsday scenario we’ve heard over the past 2+ years has played out drastically different than what 9/10 pundits guessed it would… Like it or not, we live in an era where the word “unprecedented” has lost its meaning.
Not trying to be a a-hole here, but posts like this help almost no one. CD’s ominous-yet-irritatingly-vague warning is not going to change a single thing the macro… But I’m sure their ambiguous confidence will cause a handful of people a dose of self-inflicted anxiety they def could of avoided.
Given that we all know a Reddit bot can post a “tRuST me bro!! 🚀” hype post… maybe give us SOME legitimizing context if you truly are aiming to be helpful? If not, maybe should rethink if worth sharing next time.
The past two years have showed something obvious: Economists are great historians. They’re absolutely atrocious prophets.

Maybe only 3 reps, Max
🙄 “you don’t want to know how I know” then why even mention it
My thoughts exactly.

Good less advertising, can't wait. Don't fear this time, embrace it and let your entrepreneural spirit thrive. Go to school, embrace your second chance to tell these agencies to screw off on their feelings based staffing decisions. All these agencies deserve to get screwed.
The memo reads: advertising (and its counterparts, like PR) have been around ever since the first human tried to convince the other human to trade their last coconut for a steaming hunk of his freshly killed rabbit. It’s fundamental to commerce and capitalism. It’s not going anywhere.
And although I don’t sell Charmin ads, I write unbranded PSAs, the people who do that work will be fine, too. Layoffs and rehires are a constant in every industry. This isn’t the dying railroad, but if it were, it just means the jobs are shifting to car makers, airlines or Ubers. It’s all the same—you just have to pay attention and keep your skills current and transferable.
I wish FB had the equivalent of a @RemindMe_OfThis twitter bot. Not because I doubt OP’s theory/prediction, but because I want to follow up with all the naysayers here laughing at OP’s post, simply because s/he didn’t share their source.
Anyone paying the slightest bit if attention to what’s taken place in the economy, and the constant weekly announcements of layoffs in tech, shouldn’t doubt this warning with the level of snark I’m seeing in the comments here.
@CD11, the fact that this is the case for the industry in good times should make you even more concerned when there's strong economic headwinds (aka right now). The agency business is hyper cyclical, very high in client and employee turnover, and hella depressed margins.
In good times, agencies struggle to stabilize and avoid layoffs. So when things go slightly south, expect an even more outsized response to control costs and headcount.

Why get your book in order if everyone is laying off?

If these massive layoffs are coming where are all of the new jobs we should be applying for coming from?
Can’t access the bowl but will check them out. Thanks
Good thing we're all NFT crypto experts thanks to all those client pitch decks. I'm sure it'll be fine. But in case it's not, please subscribe to my Onlyfans for exclusive headlines I'm not sharing on Tiktok.
Where have you been the last 2.5 years? Every agency has been laying people off in fairly significant numbers and in multiple waves since Covid.
☝️This. We got through a global pandemic, lost our jobs, freelanced and found new, better jobs. Tell me something scary.
Furthermore, unless this administration can really start focusing on the economy then who know who will be back in office. The administration should be focusing on only thing, how do we do we cut inflation, how do we get peoples 401k back because when consumer spending slows, layoffs come. 89% of voters say the economy is the #1 issue. If they keep focusing on social issues , then it’s actually only going to worse. No matter which side you sit, the left is terrible at being pragmatic and spends way too much catering to the fringes. I know I don’t want the orange man back but I also don’t want to go into a 18 month recession.
FWIW, the stocks picture is only down from the perspective of the grotesque bubble that formed from trillions in pandemic money printing. You could also say we’re about where we should be given former trends.
I should also say there’s a lot of good discussion here, glad to see it.
I know. Don’t ask me how = they have no idea but they’ve had four PBRs and they think they’re the man.

i heard lumon is hiring
At least you know you can’t get fired from there.
Well I’m fucked
I agree but to each his own. I have worked 6mo, 3mo, 8mo contracts both W2 and 1099 without ever going through a staffing agency or upwork. And I wouldn’t want temporary healthcare from them because it’s a huge tax deduction as SA1 mentioned. Also most tech and in-house pay weekly. The theme here though is yes if your valued and needed you get extended whether you do that under a staffing agency or not but I prefer to take in all that business under my own name and company.
