CD, Ok eventually it will happen, if you have no valid proof or info, your statement is pointless. It’s like saying, “it’s going to rain.” Well ok, either it’s going to rain today or tomorrow or not. If advertising dollars are down now as inflation stabilizes, why would they spend less in ads? If you’ve been in this field long enough you know it has ups and downs. Our profession has never been secure. Just stop the scare tactics.
It’s not a recession though. They changed the definition. Everything is fine.
No offense, but without any credible context besides “trust me bro” … kinda sounds like a CD got a ‘tip’ from a finance bro friend or something? 🙄 …
I live on Wall Street and hear this back forth “Listen to me! You better stuff your money in the mattress asap vs. Ok Howard Hughes take a Xanax” argument at the bar every week. But ALL the money crowd seems to agree, the best way to guarantee the least optimal outcome is for everyone to buy into all this media whipping worst case scenario(s) + hard stop individual spending en masse to premptively “protect themselves” much more than what is necessary.
Please keep in mind that every single doomsday scenario we’ve heard over the past 2+ years has played out drastically different than what 9/10 pundits guessed it would… Like it or not, we live in an era where the word “unprecedented” has lost its meaning.
Not trying to be a a-hole here, but posts like this help almost no one. CD’s ominous-yet-irritatingly-vague warning is not going to change a single thing the macro… But I’m sure their ambiguous confidence will cause a handful of people a dose of self-inflicted anxiety they def could of avoided.
Given that we all know a Reddit bot can post a “tRuST me bro!! 🚀” hype post… maybe give us SOME legitimizing context if you truly are aiming to be helpful? If not, maybe should rethink if worth sharing next time.
The past two years have showed something obvious: Economists are great historians. They’re absolutely atrocious prophets.
Layoffs happen in advertising?!
Ugh.
Don’t ask me how I know. I just know.
Blowhard.

Dude bro after this why don't we like totally schmotally smoke shrooms and you can tell me how the universe works??
Layoffs in advertising, how new. What a terrible time
to be a freelancer. Somehow whenever there’s layoffs there are agencies with things that still need to be made and tight budgets better suited to contractual work 🧐

Layoffs in advertising... Groundbreaking.
Not my agency. We are way ahead of the curve.
We already had our layoffs this week.
Regardless. It is a good idea to be ready, to have your book and portfolio ready. All. The.
Time. You have no idea when they will do it!

Why didn’t OP include a tearing-eyed pic of himself crying in his post? Missed opportunity, don’t you think?
Unemployment checks here I come!!!!
Come to Biolumina. We aren’t going to be laying anyone off
We’re being kicked off Box and forced to use a VPN server. It’s not about work efficiency with Omnicom…it’s just about the profit.
Yeah… I don’t see that happening.
I guess this was all 🧢
Agree. It’s happening quietly and in small numbers but frequently. It keeps the headlines down.
I trust op. He a time traveler
Can confirm. My last agency laid of 20% of staff a month ago. I was one of them.

Im sorry that happened to you. It sucks and I hope you find a new gig. Doesn’t mean that what I said isn’t true.
While the people here are right, nobody knows the future, agencies are very fragile during economic volatility… I’ve never gotten laid off (yet) I’m always ready. I believe that’s the advice someone should take from the OP.
Actually, i/we do want to know!
Ha okay. I’ll bite — I want to know how you know
Winter is coming
Has OP replied with a follow up? There are so many comments, it’s hard to sift through everything. I’d love at least a tiny bit more detail, even a hint, to add more context to the original post. Q4 is nearly a month away.
CD1 is right. Winter is coming.
2023 will be an ugly and tough year.
It’s not about believing. It’s a fact. Study macroeconomics and you might see it.
