$200 per hour is . . . bupkis (“bobkes” in Yiddish)?!
I would not equate that much money with mere “goat droppings.”
Listen, if that’s bupkis, may I drown in goat droppings till the Messiah comes.
Misinterpreted bupkiss. Not the amount. Rephrased: for what it's worth, which is bupkiss, the rate my agency bills me to clients at is: X.
Asked another freelancer and recruiter in the market I work in what they thought it should be at my level.
Really just what the market can bear and how much they need you. I wish the actual rate they bill the client was leverage but it isn't.
And to echo what the other writer said, talk to your peers and some more senior freelancers. I'm 20 years in, if you'd like to DM specifics
Weird. Usually ad agencies bill out a 2-2.5 times what you would normally charge. I bill out at $180/hr. The ad agency I’m at bills the client at $360/hr for me.
This is global agency though and the client is a national brand.
As someone who has freelanced for 15+ years, your last role (sr CW) is going to dictate a lot, as well as your years in the industry, the services you’re offering, and finally the role they’re filling. Your range in recent years would have been 80-100. That may have taken a hit to 60-80 for the budget wary.
Hourly for a sr cw is about 80
I charge $125 an hour.
