Gabriel Kreuther—our most recent French dinner on my SO’s birthday and they showered us with free desserts + chocolate (I didn’t know GK runs a chocolatier too), along with just amazing French food

I second GK, one of the most detailed and delicious meals I've ever had. Service is superb. Not sure if he's still there but they have/had a young Somm who blew my dad and I away with his knowledge.
Le Bernadin, La Grenouille , Le Cocou - these used to be my favorite prior to the pandemic. Not been there in a while, damn now I need to look these up. thanks D :)
Agree with la grenouille-it’s an institution.
Buvette in the west village is spectacular. Bistro style, unpretentious, killer cocktails too.
Seconding Gabriel Kreuther for something a bit higher end/haute cuisine. It feels like an experience.
Le Veau D’Or feels like a throwback. Classic French food and service. Always a fun experience.
Dirty French is fun as hell too.

Can’t say enough about Le Bernardin for french Mediterranean
Cafe d’Alsace, Balthazar, Tartine, Buvette, and Daniel boulud’s restaurants are all wonderful as well
