I think it’s a much bigger red flag when they use every black person in the firm to interview you, knowing that hardly any of the associates or partners are black
Agreed with this. If it's not a representation of their firm better to be upfront
No
Depends. In your matter area no. I’d find it a reg flag if someone interviewed my from lit just bc they were black rather than all white peoples in my actual corporate area.
But if they have minorities they are hiding for me bc they think we will be more honest with each other then that’s a red flag.
Not clear red flag, but something I’d definitely investigate before accepting an offer. For context, I’m the sole black person in my office and I’ve decided I can’t use all my time to show up for every POC we interview, because then it becomes disproportionately unpaid labor for me. However, there are a lot of other POC in our other offices and the firm has demonstrated an ability to promote POC to partnership (including equity) so anyone looking through our website can see that and ask for an informational interview with one of us to get comfortable before accepting an offer.
Compare that with my prior firm that was predominantly white and had a history of pushing out black people at the mid level. The combination of all white interviewers plus lack of POC partners in leadership ranks (only 2 black partners and 2 Asian partners across all offices) will tell you what you need to know.
Just curious why that would be a red flag to you?

If many POC left in the past 1-2 years.
Why would this be a red flag? Just curious. I think many recruiters at law firms are white
Recruiting committees are a drag and nobody wants to be tokenized. Check out the website and reach out to attorneys of color or ask the interviewers for other (attorney of color) they'd recommend you reach out to.
It's your time to interview the firm, and if POC don't give you time or tell you to steer clear, that's your red flag
