@edelman1 — if you’re an art director (not a graphic designer) than what you’re earning is a high junior salary. Mid level AD is $60 - $80K. That place is a true shitshow and Jimmy is an industry joke. Try to get out of there
@OP, salary trajectory was a little weird for me because as a designer I worked on a lot of heavy tech UI and UX so the role was a little different from the role of most agency designers. I was at 85 at my last designer job, went to 90 plus bonus, now 95 plus bonus.

man blown away by the salary differences between the male and female art directors in this thread 😕

@ACD1: mid level in design not art direction
Jumping agencies will help you a lot and ask for no less than 20k if you’re moving up a level.

I went in-house, but right now I make 100k in SF. I'm male.

AD1: where are you working and are they hiring?
AD1: Do you work at SR_?

I still feel like I'm underpayed - I could've (should've) asked for more, although I still got more than what I asked for. Know your worth. P.S. it's a lot.

@OP I was a designer 2 agencies ago at a small shop. I had to jump agencies and revamp my book to make the switch.

i know, i’ve been applying to hella jobs. it’s just easier to apply with the title first than applying as a designer to AD positions. :/
