Does your new firm know that you'll go on leave as soon as you join them and they won't have you till April?
Also can you even take parental leave that soon after joining? I may be wrong but I thought most jobs required 26+ weeks of employment before paid family leave can be taken.
A2, new firm approved late start date. Back to the inquiry on giving notice lol.
If both places will give you the full leave, then I’d think longer term about which job you actually want to be at after your parental leave.
If the new firm is willing to wait for you to start until you finish your parental leave then you could be on leave through your current firm. I am guessing you would be transitioning off your work to others before you go on parental leave so you might not have to worry about closing matters when you are ready to give notice (after returning from the leave).
I think this is the right way of doing it.

This is definitely the right wow. Tbh, I’m surprised you even qualify for parental leave at the new firm.

Take the new job if you don’t see a future at your current firm, can’t stand it anymore but importantly, have infant care arrangements you feel good about when your leave is over. The transition back to working and taking care of an infant is not easy and has lots of unexpected ups and downs that impact workload/quality (going through it now). For me it’s easier to deal with the devil I know than have to prove myself at a brand new job - I just don’t have the capacity to do that right now. But if I couldn’t stand my current job, my thought calculus may be different.
