Move to LA - but not Santa Monica.
hyper gentrified, soulless, expensive and elitist with a good measure of homeless who are largely neglected.
Many better options in LA County, depending on what your interests/lifestyle are.
Pro
If you want beach and close to LAX, the beach cities are a MUCH better option than Santa Monica. Look at Manhatten beach, Hermosa Beach, redondo beach.
I prefer the weather and beach scene in LA so Santa Monica.
I like to visit SF for like two days max but I could not see myself leaving there. I lean conservative so that plays a factor.

Santa Monica. SF sucks, just moved from there and the entire city is more or less shutdown
I stayed in the mission. It was nice. Ate at some fun outdoors restaurants around financial district . It was a lot less crowded than LA but it is during Covid times 🤷♀️
SF so you can stay tf away from anywhere near the LA area
Our building is bigger than yours so, doubtful
New York
Consultant I already live in New York :) bored... need change of scenery

OP - I live in the Rust Belt (not Detroit).
Weather wise, the weather is a mixed bag. Cold winters and summer can get humid (although not as bad as the Southeast or Texas).
But cities like Chicago & Detroit are huge. There is always something fun to do.
That being said, there is nothing wrong with the parts of Cali you mention, as long as you can afford it. You could buy a near-mansion in the Rust Belt for the price of the housing in SF or SM. In my opinion, that makes it worth the bad weather in February.
LA or Santa Monica.
SF has way too many homeless ppl
Really? Didn’t see a single homeless person. I saw more homeless people in Venice beach, Santa Monica and downtown LA

Yes
Deloitte why is that? Quieter and cleaner or other reasons?... and yeah that the grammar police was here earlier 🤷♀️

K new rule. Nobody from IBM is allowed to answer! I am asking if I should have strawberry or pistachio ice cream and you are telling me to have a cheese cake!
No SF. Have you been there?
Yes spent the week there. It was gorgeous! But I am told that isn’t the norm
