Should I take a role at EYP Transactions or FTI Business Transformation if I want to eventually move to MBB?

If u wanna go to MBB, generally there are 3 paths (most often, some special cases):
1. Go directly from undergrad
2. Do your MBA from a top global school & directly go to MBA
3. Have 5+ years of industry experience & get hired within the expert track

No one’s gonna care if you do EY for 5 yrs tbh, you’ll start over from undergrad equivalent role

like

I’d add a 4th: join as a lateral hire from another consulting firm. That’s what I did. I lost 1 grade (downlevelled to PL), but the move was worth it

I'd do EY over FTI. Heard some cringe stories from a MBA colleague that went for FTI. After 6 months of hell, he actually switched to a manager role at EY (this is Middle East, however. Overall work practices here are substandard VS NA/EU).

Also, seems like BCG and Mck are hiring more & more specialized talent (lots of Digital, M&A due diligence, Procurement, Sustainability, etc). The old generalist consultant is not as attractive nowadays due to AI & clients' maturity --> move to transformation strategy + implementation

Run away from FTI

SSG at EY likely has the best shot. It’s cultish and they think they are more important than they are but it’s got the most realistic shot at MBB. Most aren’t hiring from Tier2 like they did before. Part of the view was EY and other Tier2 firms were picked over during Covid so the talent left isn’t as strong.

Hi! I have worked in management roles in tech, mainly in analytics, for approximately 10 years. My TC has fluctuated (currently around 135K CAD), but it seems like it's relatively easy to breach the 100K bar, but hard to breach the 150K bar. I now work at the CBC, but I have worked in the private sector too. What is the most realistic way to move to 200K? 1) Continue moving the ladder to a VP position, 2) Switch to Pre-Sale, 3) Switch to Consulting, 4) Work from a U.S. company from Canada.

Any advice on a first year trying to transition from family law to in-house? I always thought family law was my path, and used to enjoy it, but it’s not the direction I want to head in anymore. I don’t think I even want to continue with any litigation work. I’m having a hard time finding firms that are hiring entry level associate positions that don’t require at least 3+ years experience in-house. Should I start at a business law firm to get experience working with corporations first?

After you moved in-house, how did you get more comfortable reviewing contracts or counseling on issues you weren’t super familiar with? I was very specialized at my law firm and took a similarly specialized role in-house….but I still get requests to mark-up types of agreements that I never touched at my firm. I’ve been trying to find CLEs to get up to speed, but I’m wondering if this is generally something that gets more comfortable with time…

Hey everyone I’m making a large career change. I’m still working at my current role but have been learning to code for a minute. Html, css, JavaScript, python, and SQL. Hopefully by the end of my contract (June 2023) I’ll have a decent portfolio with 4 solid apps. This is my goal. Has anyone else broke into tech w/o a official degree along side it? If so what resources did you use?

Read that McK is paying 2K higher than BCG this year which means BCG will probably raise again next year to at least match. However, they can’t just copy McK with 2K to match because that would look bad so they’ll have to beat it again. Then McK and Bain will follow. Barring a devastating recession, I’m guessing this means MBB is all getting raises again next year?
