I’ve been on projects where we had to work or be avail on Christmas and other holidays. If the project is for a client that requires coverage then yes- it is “allowed”. Normally you will be comped a day of your choosing to take those holiday hours so you could roll it to a Friday or extend a vacation without using a day of pto

Generally in this situation they give you OT comp or comp you extra PTO you can use as soon as possible. It’s definitely legal in any case.
It’s not ideal but it happens.
Why would it not be allowed? - This isn’t school.
Plenty of people are going to work on Memorial Day and because it is a day that fewer people work, it’s often opportune for technology initiatives given reduced volume, extended weekend, and available dowtime.
She also found out this week that this was happening. Not much of a heads up

I worked holidays for system cutovers before. Any partner worth working for will grant other floating holidays or otherwise compensate the team.
ETA - we usually knew pretty far in advance that it was happening based on client schedule .
I’ve worked just about every federal holiday there is, including Christmas! Usually you can use that holiday time within the same pay period so you don’t lose it. But this is common place on my team, and definitely allowed.
